A Day In The Life Of A Middle School Girl In The Mid-2000s

In the mid-2000s, life was so much simpler. It was the time when we didn't have to stress about being in college and voting for our next president. As a middle school girl in the mid-2000s, it was even more stressful finding out whether Miley Stewart was going to be with Jake Ryan or not. A typical day in the life of a middle school girl in the mid-2000s can be summarized like this:

7 a.m.

Your alarm goes off to the tune of some catchy Hannah Montana tune. After a few moments, you finally shut off your alarm and look around your room. It's covered in posters of Zac Efron, Jesse McCartney and various other Disney Channel hotties. You then proceed to get ready for school while watching an episode of "Kim Possible" and scarfing down a Toaster Strudel and juice at the same time.

7:45 a.m.

The school bus comes, and it's the start of a brand-new school day. Along the way to school, Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" plays on the bus. You're so into this song to the point where you're beating your fists intensely into the seat behind you. Your best friend is reading a J-14 magazine and is constantly pointing out all the cute clothes Ashley Tisdale is wearing.

8:30 a.m.

The school day starts, and it's very boring. At least you get to eat a Lunchable.

12:15 p.m.

You're eating your Lunchable while staring at five million posters of celebrities in milk mustaches around your school's cafeteria.

1:00 p.m.

Lunchtime is over. And yes, school is still boring.

3:15 p.m.

The school day ends, and Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" is blaring on the bus. You're learning how to spell bananas again, and your best friend is reading yet another J-14 magazine.

5 p.m.

After finishing homework, your mom drives you and your best friend to the mall. As expected, you two girls spend an entire fortune at The Limited Too.

7 p.m.

You and your best friend make it back just in time for a Disney Channel movie. "High School Musical" comes on, and it's totally #lit.

9:30 p.m.

It's bedtime, but your best friend decides to spend the night over. She was supposed to be home an hour ago, but her mom finally relents. This process starts all over again.

These were all the best of times as a girl growing up in the mid-2000s.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
