Whenever you hear the name David Bowie, you think about a red lighting bolt and wild hair. For me, it's Space Oddity and Heroes. Two amazing songs that are so different yet that Bowie style never falters. David Bowie was a genius both in music and fashion and if it weren't for him, many artists like Madonna, Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, and the whole Glam movement would've never happened. We owe so much to Bowie that it seems like time itself won't be enough to thank him for all that he's done. Every single album was orchestrated masterfully and his ever changing looks gave people a glimpse of how artistic and ever changing he really was. David Bowie's music and style will live on forever and his work will be copied and admired by many for years to come. Here are ten songs of David that are truly out of this word. Rest easy, Starman.
10. Ashes to Ashes
Many of Bowie's songs were connected and this particular song talked about "Major Tom" a previous song of Bowie's released in 1969. Major Tom was Bowie himself and he was singing about his downfalls and success. Lyrics such as: I've never done good things/I've never done bad things/I never did anything out of the blue reflect on Bowie's moral and artistic journey.
9.The Jean Genie
Bowi himself said that the song was written about Cyrinda Foxe adding " "I wrote it for her amusement in her apartment. Sexy girl.". The song was also greatly inspired by Bowie's friend and punk legend; Iggy Pop.
8. Rebel Rebel
This song is often credited as being Bowie's goodbye letter to the Glam movement that he pioneered. Released in 1974, it's Bowie's most covered song and it's noted for its infectious riff and memorable lyrics.
7.China Girl
The song was originally recorder by Iggy Pop in the 70's but rose to popularity in the 80's when Bowie recorded it and released it as a single.
6.Fame
Fame was written by Bowie with help from John Lennon and was released in 1975. This is one of Bowie's most played singles and to this day is a staple of the 70's. In fact, John Lennon's voice can be heard at the end of the track. Bowie said of the song that "I'd had very upsetting management problems and a lot of that was built into the song. I've left all that behind me, now... I think fame itself is not a rewarding thing. The most you can say is that it gets you a seat in restaurants."
5.Modern Love
This is one of my favorite Bowie songs and it's mostly inspired by Little Richard,
4.Changes
"Changes" is one of Bowie's most notable songs and is a staple of Bowie himself. The song talks bout Bowie and his ever changing personality.
3.Ziggy Stardust
"Ziggy Stardust" was not only a song but a persona for Bowie. The song was released in 1972 and was inspired by "The Legendary Stardust Cowboy".
2. Space Oddity
Written only by Bowie, this genius piece of music was released in 1969 around the time that man would first walk on the moon.
1. Heroes
"Heroes" is Bowie's second most covered song (the first being Rebel Rebel). The song is powerful and re gained popularity after being the closing song in "The Perks of Being a Wildflower". ROger Hodgson said that "Bowie's performance thus grows in intensity precisely as ever more ambiance infuses his delivery until, by the final verse, he has to shout just to be heard....The more Bowie shouts just to be heard, in fact, the further back in the mix Visconti's multi-latch system pushes his vocal tracks, creating a stark metaphor for the situation of Bowie's doomed lovers".
