The man with a band, I thank you. Your lyrics have gotten me through those long nights at the library (and other places), so it's time to celebrate.
Here are some classic DMB lyrics, explained by a college student, for us college students.
1. Tequila drinking, our minds will wander to wondrous places. - Tripping Billies
Oh Dave, if you only knew....
Tequila: the best confidence booster in a bottle. Giving legal-aged college students the courage to dance on tables and ask out that hot ZTA they've been eyeing since the beginning.
2. I was just wondering if you'd come along to hold up my head when my head won't hold on. - The Stone
When the tequila drinking gets out of hand, someone has to help you. Whether it's cutting on the shower or holding your hair back, we all need someone. Dave knows the affects of tequila, and he's just looking for that good friend. Thanks in advance, buddy.
3. If you hold on tight to what you think is your thing, you may find you're missing all the rest. - Best Of What’s Around
College is all about trying new things. If you go through college limiting yourself, you graduate in four years just like how you came in. Next time you have a group project, partner up with someone different. Or go out and try that new Korean place that serves food you can't identify. Or at least think about trying it.
4. Maybe I'm crazy, but laughing out loud makes the pain pass by. And maybe you're a little crazy, but laughing out loud makes it all subside. - Spoon
Remember this the next time its 3 a.m. and you're cramming for a final in Hunt. Or you get that test you spent five hours studying for and you got a 67 on. Just laugh it off. Maybe get a margarita as well.
5. Celebrate we will, because life is short but sweet for certain. - Two Step
We only have four years of college. (Hopefully.) Enjoy them. Go out on a Thursday. Eat a large pizza by yourself. Oh, what a time to be alive!
6. I'll be back 'round again, yes, I'll walk in time with you, old friend. And we'll find that place that we had danced in so long ago. - Song That Jane Likes
Even though college only lasts a short amount of time, the memories and friendships don't. Keep in touch, tell your kids, and cling to the sweet taste of that three dollar sangria you got that one time at a bar. We have to move on, but we don't have to grow up. Thank you, college, for sweet friendships.
