Let’s pretend I’m your best friend for a second—I have some dating advice for you. After dating throughout high school and college, I’ve figured it all out, really:
Guys who are older than you make the best boyfriends.
The list of reasons why older guys are better in relationships is endless:
- Not only are they more mature, but also they’re more fun to be around.
- They bring more life experiences into a relationship and can serve as a great source of advice since they’ve most likely gone through whatever you’re struggling with.
- They bring you back to reality when you’re caught up in catty drama; they remind you the petty fight with your friends is not the end of the world.
- Their goals are clear, for life and for your relationship.
The biggest reason that older guys rock is their maturity level. Ask any girl what they love about their boyfriend being older, and they will most likely tell you that he’s much more mature than other people. Even just one or two years can make a difference in a person’s maturity level, especially with boys. Older guys know how to speak to women respectfully. Their communication skills have finally formed by their twenties, and they know the proper way to speak to girls. They can also work through problems by expressing themselves to you in a way that younger guys generally haven’t figured out yet.
With this maturity comes a certain thoughtfulness as well. An older boyfriend is mature enough to realize that including you in his plans is the considerate move to make. When it’s Christmastime, he’ll want you there at the many monotonous holiday parties so he has someone to hang out with. He’ll be thoughtful enough to mark you down as his plus-one to family weddings. He’ll also show you off at all of these functions. He’ll let people know that he’s happy to be with you by introducing you to everyone around.
Another draw to having an older boyfriend is their drive in life. They’re most likely further along in their path than you, whether that be with college, a career or some other pursuit. You might be a college freshmen searching for your major, but he will be applying for internships with companies that he may be working at in a year. His goals are clear and achievable. To be able to afford that lake house one day, he’ll know that he must first attain a diploma—which won’t happen if he slacks off on schoolwork and exams. Older guys know how to set goals and what to do to accomplish them.
I could go on and on about why older guys make the best boyfriends, but these major reasons stand out to me. Dating someone older has many perks to it that make these relationships better than previous ones. If you’re lucky enough to snag someone older than you, it’s best to keep him around because he might be a good one.
