Why should you date a fangirl?
Some people may hesitate.
She’s crazy. She’s obsessive.
Why in the world does she know everything about this band?
In reality, she is one of the most passionate people that you will ever have the pleasure of knowing. Her love for the fandom shows you that much. Yes, she may spend hours scrolling through Tumblr and reblogging pictures and videos of some guy from a band. And, OK, maybe she spends even longer watching interviews and performances on YouTube. But, when you really think about it, it takes a lot of dedication.
She’s sort of the best you will ever find.
Here’s why…
She gets to live a very special life. She has invested so much in somebody that she has never even met, so just imagine what she would invest in you.
She has so much love to give. So you shouldn’t wonder why she projects some of that love toward someone who spends every day pursuing his dream. It shouldn’t be surprising that she wants to be a part of something bigger than herself.
Let her live. Let her find a home in her fandom. Let her text you at 2 a.m. whining about how another fake girlfriend has gained media attention. Encourage her to go to concerts and maybe even accompany her to some.
She asks for very little in return. You get this loving, passionate, crazy girl. And all she wants is for you to understand her inner fangirl. Yes, she’ll want you to listen while she goes on and on about how great her favorite singer looks in his new blue shirt. And okay, maybe you’ll question if she loves him more than she loves you. (Anything is possible). But at the end of the day, she only wants you.
So yeah, maybe she’s a little crazy and a little obsessive.
But she’s also the best you’ll ever get because no other girl is capable of loving you quite the same way she will.
She has learned to love in a way that makes it clear to everyone.
Her love is so obvious and strong. People can see it when she talks about her band.
If you’re lucky, someday they will see it when she talks about you.
So, yeah, she’s a fangirl.
She expects you to understand that she will need to take some time off of work for a reunion tour in 20 years.
And she knows that you are a special man for taking the time to understand the way she loves.
And trust me when I say that she appreciates you.
The best thing about dating a fangirl is that she’s learned from years of terrible articles and bad reviews that nothing will break her.
She’s not one to give up easily, because that’s not what fangirls do.
So if you’re ever fortunate enough to fall in love with a fangirl, please don’t let her go. And please don’t discourage her ways. Let her love, and in return, she will love you more than she ever dreamed of loving her favorite band member.
Because if she learned anything from years of fangirling, it’s that everyone deserves to be loved and to be in love.
