In today's fast-paced and technology-filled world, the word "date" has almost become extinct.

A fellow Odyssey writer, Eileen Curran, wrote an article titled: "Why We Need to Start Dating Again" (pause reading this one, her article is a great read!

She points out how no one is "actually dating anymore." Her words couldn't be more true. Most people just end up talking or hanging out rather than going on dates. It seems that when people do go on a date it becomes a huge deal and can be overwhelming.

I conducted a very scientific survey, and have come up with a list of dates that people actually want to be taken on. None of them require a whole lot of planning, and they aren't very formal. So if you are afraid to take the person that you are just talking to on a real date, take them on one of these!

1. Mini golf or arcade.

These are both great ideas, because who doesn't love a little competition? But if you're a guy reading this, don't do the whole "let me stand behind her and show her how to putt" thing. That's a middle school move, and despite how good at golf you might say you are, we can figure out how to hold a club and hit a ball ourselves. Bonus points if you can win us something at the arcade.

2. Ice cream.

Sorry to the lactose intolerant folks, but who doesn't love ice cream? Whether it's Cold Stone or that little family owned store, you really can't go wrong here. Put down the cell phones (Instagram has enough pictures of food on it already), and enjoy each other's company.

3. Picnic.

This one is a classic, and there is a reason for that. Grab a blanket, make some sandwiches and head out to the spot of your choice. This one is great because you have so many locations to choose from. The quad, near the river, a park, or just somewhere you enjoy, everyone loves a good picnic!

4. Sporting event.

For college kids, this couldn't be an easier date! Take advantage of all the sporting events that are constantly happening on campus, most of them are even free! Or if you live close to a professional venue, go to a baseball or football game! Even if all you can afford is nosebleed seats, it will still be a good time.

5. Aquarium or zoo.

This one is for all the animal lovers out there! If you live near an aquarium or zoo, make a day out of it, and learn something about animals while you get to know each other.

6. Drive or stargazing.

This one is simple, but still fun! Just hop into the car without a planned destination, and see where you end up. Play the "left or right" game where the driver asks which direction, and the passenger picks. It's a good way to make conversation, and you can check out their music taste while they play DJ.

7. Lake or outdoor day.

Going to the lake, river or beach together is always a fun time! However if parading around in your swimsuit all day isn't your style, go on a hike! Either way, explore the world around you and enjoy nature together.

8. Pizza and Netflix.

We all love pizza, and we all love Netflix, so invite someone over to do that! However, a lot of times people use this just as excuse to get someone over to their place. Don't be that person that expects anything just because the person you like is already at your apartment. Have pizza and Netflix really mean just pizza and Netflix!

Dates don't have to be complicated or fancy, just have fun with it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
