I have always found Valentine's Day difficult (to say the least). Ever since I was a youngin, I had a very pessimistic perspective about the whole event, and ironically at the same time I was (and am) a hopeless romantic and imagined receiving a rose from the boy I'd been smitten by. But that never happened. There were some years when I tried to claim the holiday for myself: I handed out roses to every person in my class in elementary school, I sent a bouquet of balloons to my junior prom date as a thank you, and freshman year of college I handed out chocolate to every girl who lived on my floor. The point is, Valentine's Day is hard if you're single and if you've always been single, trust me, I know. But, one thing that I love about this day is its focus on love. And something I love almost as much as the abstract idea of love and eternal bonds and everything sappy, is art (music, dance, painting, etc.). So the following are choreographed dance videos to amazing romantic songs. And if you love romance, and dance, and heartbreak and music, then these are the videos for you.
1. "Stuck With Me" by Timeflies
The dance of a couple moving in and working through all of life's trivial problems. But have no fear, romance is the conqueror of all.
2. "Let It Go" by Jame Bay
For those that are heartbroken, this video will speak to the cracked parts of your heart. The story of a break up to one of the best James Bay songs. Caution: you may need tissues and chocolate (even if you've never been in a break-up, this video will leave you broken about someone you never even loved).
3. "Fix You" by Coldplay
We all love a classic Coldplay song, but when you introduce dance and a desert into it, it's like 'hello emotions, how are you?' I have several questions throughout this video: was that really the best shirt she could wear (it seems slightly inconvenient), how did they get to the desert, and why white? No matter, this is an incredibly powerful performance to a classic.
4. "Wicked Game" by James Vincent McMorrow
Not only is this cover of 'Wicked Game' flawless, but this performance is like watching a fairy tale unfold. There are points when you may forget that these are two separate performers - or that this is just dancing. Beware of 'the feels'.
5. "Still" by Daughter
For the relationship that isn't all that perfect or romantic, and not yet broken, as though it's hanging on by several threads. It's toxic but addictive, just like this short choreographer section. If this doesn't inspire you to dance to everything by Daughter, then I don't know what will.
Happy Valentine's Day, don't forget there are infinite types of love in the world, so you are loved no matter what your relationship status is.
