Dad,
I was fortunate enough to be granted with the opportunity of having the greatest dad ever. Dad's come in all different shapes, sizes, personalities, and colors, but I wouldn't change a single thing about you. I am so lucky to have received such a selfless, heart-filled man. I must say I do feel guilty that I haven't thanked you for all you do as much as I wish I had, but don't think that what you do goes unnoticed, ever.
As a child, I never quite understood why it seemed like you always expected so much out of me, but as I grew older I realized you and I had a lot in common. You knew the in’s and out’s of what I had to do to become successful. You always pushed me to be the best I could be, and I am forever thankful for that. You taught me what it was like to love someone unconditionally. You taught me that your mistakes don't define you as long as you make better of yourself. Most importantly, you taught me how a real man should always treat a lady.
I couldn't imagine growing up without the constant support and care you always gave me. Not only did you contribute to the lively personality I have grown up to have, but also skills that I will remain using for the rest of my life.
While growing up, you started off teaching me how to tie my shoes, something that I often overlook now, but would be lost if you had never showed me before. You then went on by teaching me the fundamentals of riding a bike, reading, doing quick arithmetic in my head, and playing sports. Without having fallen off my bike, I would never know what its like to get hurt and try again at something rather than quitting and walking away from it. Without you teaching me simple reading and math skills, college and jobs I have wouldn't be so easy. Last but not least, without you teaching me how to play sports ,I wouldn't know what its like to work so hard for something, even when you know you have a while until it will finally pay off. Every day I think to myself just how lucky I am for you teaching me these skills, and most importantly, I am especially thankful for your patience.
Your patience was exactly what made you and I be able to work together so efficiently. Something that a lot of others lack. That was one of your many qualities I couldn't be more thankful for. As I grew older and older you taught me more and more tips for how to live a successful and entertaining life, and as I entered my years of early adulthood that was when you had your biggest job of all, being a driving Instructor. This is when I knew your patience would truly be tested. As the proud contributor of many prior scrapes and dents to our house I knew this was something that would not be easy for any of us. If anyone knows just how I drive, you are probably praying for my dad at this point. Luckily, there was no damage done (physically) so it turns out he successfully taught me another task I will use for the rest of my life. Im not sure how you do it but without your patient personality I would have never had the courage to keep doing something even if I repeatedly fail at it. You always made sure I never gave up, In return you never gave up on me, and that is something I am forever thankful for.
I couldn't be more thankful for all that you have taught me and done for me in life thus far. You often gave up all that you had on your back and in your wallet to make mom and us children have the best lives we could. Your compassion, generosity, guidance , and endless love are something I will treasure forever. Remember, just because I have gotten older does not mean your times of teaching and guidance are over. I imagine I will still need a few pointers as I move into the next stage of adult hood. Who better to learn from than the best?
