Many of us lead full lives.
We work, go to school, run errands, clean our homes, hangout with friends, and at the end of the day (hopefully) make time for ourselves. We all have different ways to unwind and recently, I have made mine spin class. Every day, I devout an hour to my health, goals and happiness and it has never once been a struggle to get myself to spin.
When I walk into class I leave my personal issues outside that door because the only thing that matters is what I can control at that very moment. I adjust the settings on my stationary bike as I nervously sit in the front row. Of course, the most difficult instructor is teaching the one time I decide to make my front row debut. Unsure if I can hold my stamina for a full 60 minutes, my friend laughs and gives me a look as we simultaneously know that we are in this together, win or lose. We begin to warm-up as the electronic music becomes louder and louder until the only thing my body feels is the vibration and positive energy that envelopes the room.
At first, all I can think of is the fact that there are five rows behind me copying my every move because I have somehow convinced them I know what I'm doing. Throughout the hour, the instructor shouts different numbers as we cycle to the beat of the music making time fly by. My neighbor encourages me to pick up the pace and the instructor motives the class when the energy seemed to fade. Although the class consists of beginners, intermediate, and professional athletes, I remind myself that we are all equal in that moment. Although we may be different in more ways than one, there is a genuine camaraderie because we are all there for the same reasons.
We cannot control our past or our future but we can decide to be present for the now. So do something everyday that you love and loves you back.
