For the past, who knows how many years I've been ordering Starbucks without a care in the world. All I knew was that after my first sip I'd have enough energy to get me started on my day. Now, I'm supposed to be shocked by the design on my cup rather than what I have inside. Rather than being sure the drink is the perfect temperature or making sure it was the right order, I need to look and see what my cup has on it. All I've been seeing and reading on my Facebook timeline are stories of how people are outraged over a red cup. A red cup that helps everyone get moving. A red cup that holds delicious drinks that everyone enjoys. A simple cup that has been causing issues all over the world because a simple design has been felt off the cup. Honestly, is that what this world has come to?
Some say this is because Starbucks hates Christmas. Others say it's their way of welcoming the holiday seasons.
CUSTOMER: Joshua Feuerstein took to the platform to comment on Starbucks' new cups.
"Starbucks removed Christmas from their cups because they hate Jesus," he wrote, asking followers to use the hashtag #MerryChristmasStarbucks and to ask baristas to write "Merry Christmas" on their cups instead of their names.
STARBUCKS: "In the past, we have told stories with our holiday cups designs," Jeffrey Fields, Starbucks vice president of Design & Content, said in a statement. "This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories."

Each holiday has a special type of coffee that we all look forward to. That is what should signify the time of year for people if they are that concerned about it. The color of your cup? Not at all. Unless you're one of those people who save their cups from every Starbucks order, you usually throw them away after you finish that final sip. I mean, honestly, can you think back to even Halloween season right now and think what type of cup was made without looking it up on google? Can you remember what cup was given out last year, or the years prior for this holiday season time? Probably not, because you didn't care. It wasn't something that mattered most in the world. You ordered your drink, went to where ever it was that you were going, drank it and tossed the cup to the trash when you finished.
Normal Cups:
Because even I was curious to see what the change was, I looked up all the different cups based on years past. I call this bit, the Starbucks Cups of Christmas Seasons Past:
As you can see, over the last two years the cup has only had Christmas themed designs. The 2014 cup had swirls of darker shades of red versus the 2013 cup which had what looks like Christmas ornaments that you'd hang on a tree. To go against what Feuerstein had said, you can see that there has been nothing relating to Jesus or the meaning of Christ. To say that Starbucks is against Jesus is ridiculous. The new cups this year have a simple red color going around the entire cup. No creativity on them, no special designs to show the holiday. The cup is left to be a symbol of the holiday, by showing that many people relate the color of red to holidays and Christmas.
This is the new cup that everyone is freaking out over. This is the cup that has been hitting news for the past week or so. This small cup, that has ended up in trash around the world has caused so many problems. But let's be real, when we get a cup during Easter do we look for it to be colors of an Easter egg? No. When it's fall, do we look for the cup to turn orange? No. What we look for is the different types of drinks that we love every holiday. We get excited when the Peppermint Mocha comes out! That is what we should be looking forward to, not some silly design on a cup.
