A Crybaby's Memoir

I always thought that I cried at appropriate times, but I've realized that that's definitely not true. I could feel any way on the spectrum of emotions, and tears will flood my eyes instantly. It doesn't take much for me to cry about stuff, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. My family gets frustrated, because they just don't get it. Being a sensitive, emotional chick isn't a flaw, though! Crybabies need to unite and embrace the fact that we feel things a lot more -- not on purpose, but just because we get overwhelmed. Here are a couple of things all crybabies know to be true.

1. Any kind, sentimental gesture will bring tears to your eyes real quick.

Surprise parties, meaningful gifts, genuine compliments -- they're all a trigger.

2. Someone being proud of you, or you being proud of you, makes you emotional.

I mean, come on -- if I won an award, how am I not going to cry about that?

3. Frustration is your greatest weakness.

I don't know what it is about people not understanding me, but it gets me so upset when I can't get my point across or when someone just doesn't get it. And if something isn't going the right way and I can't fix it, bring on the waterfall.

4. Getting angry makes you upset, too.

When I'm mad, I want to yell or scream, but when I'm about to let it all out, I get that little ball in my throat, and I know no one's going to take me seriously if I start bawling tears.

5. When you get really excited, you know you're going to start crying.

Surprise vacations or even regular vacations get you real emotional real quick.

6. Honestly, any extreme emotion you feel will bring on tears.

I could be super sleepy and want to cry because I didn't get enough sleep. It's a problem.

7. You have the tendency to get nostalgic when you're alone, and that's obviously a mistake.

Without even knowing it, I'm watching videos of friends from senior year with my face and sleeves covered in my own tears.

8. Jumping to conclusions is a hobby.

Anything could feel mildly wrong in one of your friendships, so you know a crying fest is coming up.

9. You can proudly show people how you feel.

No one could ever say that you aren't being honest about how you feel, because crying is the purest form of sincerity -- duh.

10. ...But you are also incapable of ever hiding how you feel.

It's bittersweet; what can I say? It's a win-lose, but you can practice trying to just not speak when you feel like you're going to cry!

11. You have to accept that you're sensitive and embrace that.

Yeah, it may suck to be so emotional all of the time, but you feel things! How is that something to be ashamed of?

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
