Ask my friends. Ask my family and the people that always see me at the library; I don’t sleep. I’m a creature of the night and sunlight is my enemy. Basically, I’ve mastered the skill of pulling an all-nighter.
Now, I’m not a health specialist and these probably aren’t the best tips to follow every day of your life... but we’re all students here, and we’re looking for ways to maximize study time in a time crunch — am I right, or am I right?
1. Find another fellow creature of the night.
Having a little company makes everything better especially if they’re planning to stay up just as late as you are.
2. Coffee.
This shouldn’t even be a question and surely doesn’t need an explanation. I do advise you drink a cup of water after every cup of coffee you drink. Stay hydrated and avoid that coffee crash.
3. Pace yourself.
Don’t plan on taking on more than you can; devise a study schedule. If you have two tests to study for, divide the material ahead of time and alternate every 45 minutes or so
4. Take breaks.
Take 10-15 minute breaks between sectionals or different materials. Chill, watch some Netflix, listen to music, grab a snack — anything that refreshes you and gets you refocused.
5. Snapchat.
Pulled an all-nighter? If it’s not documented on your Snapchat story, it never happened.
6. Stretch/yoga/move/remember you have legs.
Don’t sit for too long. Move around. Choose something that gets your blood moving again. My choice of stretching or simple exercise are squats (I may or may not hide behind a giant white board to do this…)
7. Food.
No. Honey. Butter. Chicken. Biscuits. Unless you want to experience an awful sluggish crash, be my guest! But try and eat small things in intervals like apples, bananas, trail mix, popcorn, dark chocolate, etc.
8. Instagram.
During one of your breaks, go ahead and snap an artsy picture of all your study material and coffee cups. #katespadeplanner #basic
9. Go home.
At some point before your test, go home. Shower, have breakfast, if there’s time for a power nap (20 minutes or more) take one. Also, if you’re just no feeling an all-nighter, don’t do it. It won’t help you in the long run if you’re not all for it!
