Crazy About Kayla

How an Australian personal trainer took the fitness world by storm.

Crazy About Kayla

It's that time of year we've all been waiting for since the school year started—sweet, sweet summertime. Whether you go on a beach vacation, enjoy chilling poolside or lay a towel on concrete wherever you can find a patch of sunlight, most of us will find ourselves in a bathing suit at least once this summer.

Many women work out and eat right throughout the year to look and feel great when the time comes to break out the bikinis, but many of us have been left feeling underwhelmed with our efforts when we throw on our bathing suits for the first time. Women around the world have been searching for answers in order to reach their ideal "bikini body" goals and help them look andfeel great all year round. As a result, millions have turned to the fitness ideals and practices of Kayla Itsines.

What, one may ask, is making everyone so crazy about Kayla? What makes her advice so different from other fitness crazes you hear about? This past year alone, Kayla Itsines has transformed the fitness world through her practical and effective Bikini Body Training Guide.

When Itsines started her career in personal training in Australia, she noticed that most of her female clientele wanted to achieve a similar look best described as a "bikini body." After years of research and trial workout routines, Itsines created a twelve-week training guide and nutrition plan to help women finally achieve their fitness goals and see actual results.

The twelve-week plan is broken down into three set workouts that are suggested to be completed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Each unique workout is broken down in two routines that women are challenged to complete twice for a total of a 28-minute workout. These high-intensity workouts target specific areas of the body to trim fat, build muscle and leave women feeling stronger and more confident in their own skin.

When I first heard about the "Kayla Craze," I was skeptical and figured that her fitness plan would only work for certain people with specific body types. However, Itsines' social media proves otherwise. Women of all shapes, sizes and lifestyles who are completing the Bikini Body Training Guide submit progress photos to Itsines' Instagram account which she posts on a daily basis. Not only are women of all body types seeing the results they have always dreamed of, many have completed the twelve-week training feeling more confident with who they are and proud of their personal accomplishments.

Just because summer is here doesn't mean it's too late to start living a healthier lifestyle, whatever your definition of that may be. My personal fitness journey is far from over (I'm currently working on completing week four), and this training is far from easy (seriously, walking up and down the stairs is the ultimate struggle right now), but I'm confident that this training will help me and other women get serious about their health and go beyond the twelve weeks in order to create a healthier style of living.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
