Country Music Fans Have It Right

Country Music Fans Have It Right

There is always that one friend in a group who despises country music and will do just about anything to change the station when Blake Shelton or Tim McGraw blares through the car radio. Country music haters swear that the genre is only for southerners who sit outside drinking beer and playing the guitar all day, and that pop and rap music are more fitting for any other situation.

Little do these people know, country is the most expressive type of music and can relate to anyone across the nation. There are more than a few reasons why country music fans have the right idea, and why those who eagerly dislike the genre have probably never actually listened to a country song.

More than Trucks, Girls and Beer
Country music applies to most of our lives in one way or another, and the stories told by country singers are not solely about pretty girls, refreshing beer and dirty pick-up trucks. Yes, these topics do appear in many songs; however, the heartfelt narratives cover essentially every aspect of life. From first loves to painful breakups, from crazy parties to quiet and lonely nights, and fromloving family and friends to loathed enemies—country music embraces it all.

Rather than narrow its followers to a small and specific population, such as teenagers with pop music and young adults with the more alternative genre, country music allows for a wide range of listeners. Middle schoolers and grandparents can admire the same singers, because the southern drawl and soothing sounds of the guitar speak to the masses. Whether feeling joy or sorrow, there is most likely a country song exemplifying your emotions about any situation.

“Country Must Be Country Wide”
Contrary to popular belief, country music is not only for southerners. Brantley Gilbert sings the truth: whether from the North, South, East, or West, country music can be, and should be, enjoyed by all. Not only does the music relate to everyday actions of the common person, but many country songs also reference a deep love for America. People residing in any part of the country can resonate with patriotic sentiment. The music can unite Americans from across the nation on holidays such as the Fourth of July as well as on any other day of the year. Country concerts in all areas are filled with fans wearing red, white and blue clothing and accessories, including many even wearing American flag apparel. Country music fans are spirited and appreciate the patriotism displayed in many songs.

Variety of Sounds
Although country is a specific kind of music, the genre encompasses various types of songs. Rap music, for example, generally follows the same speed and sound in each song; it is often hard to distinguish individual songs because of the similar beats and fast lyrics. Usually, you have to be in a certain mood to listen to rap, as well as pop music. Country music, on the other hand, is enjoyable to listen to in any situation because of the variety of sounds it presents. There are both fast and slow country songs, which can always be uplifting.

Meaningful Lyrics
In no other genre of music will you be able to find lyrics as expressive and as genuine as in country. The songs carry significance, as the singers open their hearts to share their stories and personal feelings. No matter how hard you try, it is impossible to discover as much meaning in pop music as you can in any country song.

Next time your friends reach across the car to change the radio station, make them finish listening to the song. Sooner or later, they will realize why country music is rapidly gaining interest across the nation, and you will find them listening to Keith Urban the next time you hit the road.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
