I feel that the majority of citizens from Southern California are obsessed with summer. I'm one of the rare ones who prefers fall over summer any day. So while there are those who are in remorse over the fact that summer is coming to an end, I will be counting down the days until Autumn arrives! This article goes out to those who crave it to be fall already.
Here is a list of a few of my favorite fall aspects to get you pumped for September!
1. Pumpkin EVERYTHING:
Anyone who is obsessed pumpkins (eg. me) are often deemed to be basic, but when it comes down to it, it there is NOTHING basic about a pumpkin. Think about it: a pumpkin takes months to grow and the possibilities of things you can make out of them are endless. Granted there are ways to make anything artificially pumpkin... but we're here to focus on the pumpkin's natural aesthetics. Here are a few of my pumpkin favorites:
- Pumpkin Pie: This is often a number one on many people's list. Pumpkin pie is hands down one of my favorite flavors of pie, and the fall is the prime time to consume this magnificent creation.
- Pumpkin Coffee Creamer: Coffee and pumpkin together in one sentence is enough. I don't need to say more.
- Pumpkin Rolls: My aunt makes the best pumpkin rolls EVER! I could eat a whole loaf of it, if I didn't have to share with the rest of my family (if you don't know what pumpkin rolls are, please Google it right now). This year I might put my baking skills to the test and try to make it on my own. I might be generous and share with my roommates; we will see when the time comes.
- Pumpkin-Scented Fresheners: When you don't have any pumpkin to consume, the scent is the next best thing. Or you can consume pumpkin while having the smell lingering throughout your room or car. Either way, it's a win win situation.
2. Being Cozy:
Unfortunately, it is not cold every single day during the fall in Southern California.Yet, there are numerous opportunities to wear long sleeves, sweats, jackets, etc., and that makes me a happy camper. The further we get into fall, the colder it gets and the more layers I get to wear. I basically get to be a mass of coziness all day. You can't get much better than that. I would rather walk around snuggled up in layers all day than get stuck in the heat and get all sweaty and gross. Seriously, I don't get the appeal of summer. The only way to cool off is air conditioning or swimming, and we all don't have those luxuries, or they're not accessible 24/7.
3. Halloween:
I don't know if I am the only one, but I believe Halloween doesn't get the credit it deserves. It is hands-down one of the best holidays. What's not appealing about being able to dress up, go out, and have fun?!? Even if you're not a party-goer, you can always sit at home and watch scary movies and Halloween specials while eating candy and pumpkin-flavored deliciousness. Don't get me started on decorating and pumpkin carving. Decorating is one of my favorite things to do, no matter what holiday it is. My family has two sheds in our back yard filled with decorations. If you can't afford much, go to the dollar store. They always sell decorations! Or hit up Pinterest, it always has creative and fun DIY's. Pumpkin carving is also another fun option. It isn't the easiest thing in the world, but it is an adventure in itself. You can go old school and carve out a face, or go artistic and carve out an elaborate skull. Either way, you get to dig out pumpkin seeds (which are amazing cooked) and a fun decoration! If you don't want to carve, you can always paint your pumpkin and get the pumpkin seeds out later! Halloween also means that Christmas is closer; what more can you ask for?
So those were just a few things that I love about fall. Sorry summer-lovers. All good things must come to an end, but great things are just around the corner! What are your favorite things about fall? Comment below. Thank you and I hope you enjoyed my article! xoxo
