Six Ways To Cope With End Of Semester Stress

The end of the semester can be very difficult. You have lots of things to do and little time to get it done. Here are some tips about dealing with the stress of it all.

Be Mindful

mindfulness

Focus on the present. Allow yourself to worry less about what has happened or inevitably will happen. Instead, focus on enjoying things more. Find things that you enjoy and take time for those things. Do not just sit at your desk all the time worrying about things.

Do some physical activity

yoga

This will help you blow off some steam and get into a relaxed state of mind. A good thing to do is go to some yoga classes. In yoga you are stretching out your knots and doing some deep breathing that will help you to relax.

Spend time with friends

With a big break coming up you can text friends from home and make plans. This will give you something to look forward to. Being with the people you love will also help reduce stress and take your mind off worrying about the future.

Be thoughtful of how you are going about your schedule

schedule

Schedule in homework time, study time, food time, relax time, and definitely time to sleep. Sleep seems to be one thing we forget to do at this time of year but we need this. You are more likely to remember something you studied if you have a full night's sleep in-between your studying and the test. Its basically more study time for your brain.

Remember life is bigger than school and grades

Taking care of yourself should be number one in your life. You can't do anything if you are getting sick and having mental breakdowns all the time. Don't stress yourself out. You probably know more than you give yourself credit for. It's not as bad as it seems - you got this!!

Make sure you don't procrastinate

Make sure you don't save everything for the last minute. We have all said I just don't have time to study all the material. Well you did, but you waited till the last minute and now you don't. It's important to schedule in time to study so you get through all the material and don't feel rushed or stressed.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
