Mom and Dad,
You’ve watched me grow since birth, you have bandaged my skinned knees, you’ve set me outside in the middle of an Ohio February to.. um, what did you call it? ‘Cool off?’ You’ve watched me fall down the stairs more times than I can remember, speaking of which, mom, I really need to get your recipe for stain remover.. I didn’t think that the strawberry red pop would ever come out of that white carpet. But I am SO glad it did. We have always had silly little fits, although I always seem to get my way with dad. I just want you both to know that even though I am scared and stressed for the future, I have never been more optimistic and proud of who I have become through your teachings. I can’t thank you enough for all the support with whatever endeavors I decide to partake in. You have supported every academic choice I have made from moving away, to switching majors in the middle of the year. You’re always willing to calm me down or snap me back into reality when I need it the most. Whether I want to admit it or not, I would not have made it this far without the both of you.
You’ve taught me to be head strong.
The kind of strength that you don’t acquire overnight, the kind that can sometimes make me stand a little too strong for what I believe, but I would rather stand for everything than fall for nothing.
You’ve taught me to have poise and class in the most difficult situations.
This is my favorite quality that I have learned from you both. Instead of running away from my problems, I face them right then and there. Whether this be simply dealing with the rudest of rude people somewhere, or a mid-semester crisis. I remain calm and relaxed in intense situations.
You’ve taught me to take pride in myself.
Whether this be academics, social, appearance, I take pride in myself. I am more than proud of who I have became in my short 19 years of life and I owe this all to you two. You encourage at the hardest of times, or what I perceive to be the hardest of times, you’re my backbone, my rock, my go to, so thank you for always being a phone call or text away.
You’ve taught me to be a kind- hearted person.
Helping people was always something so encouraged as a child, having manners, treating people with respect was always an important lesson when raising me and now as an adult I understand why. There is a lot of hate and harm in the world, but you’ve taught me that the best way to counteract that is with love and kindness and I am glad to see the beauty in the world instead of the negativity.
I may not be perfect, or always on time, but I am proud to be your daughter. I cherish our relationship more than what you realize. I love you both more than you’ll every know... My cup runneth over with my love and gratitude to you.
xoxo,
Your Little Girl
