We all know Kanye has found his way to the headlines very easily, and usually it's not of high praise, but instead, controversy. Recently, Kanye released his music video for his song "Famous" and of course, it sparked A LOT of talk. There is a lot of discussion and guesses as to what the meaning behind the video possibly could be, but Kanye has yet to make a statement on the meaning of the video. Now while Kanye has a reputation for being a bit unpredictable, this video release has the whole world wondering what was running through his mind.
The video for "Famous" was released on June 24th, 2016 at 7 p.m. and was only released on TIDAL, a music streaming service. In this video, Kanye recreated Vincent Desiderio's 2008 "Sleep" and filled the roles with many other well known celebrity wax figures. To name a few: Donald Trump, Taylor Swift, Bill Cosby, Caitlyn Jenner, Rihanna, Amber Rose, etc. Kanye tweeted (and then deleted) "Can somebody sue me already #I'llwait". Clearly Kanye feels untouchable, as usual.
Kanye told Vanity Fair that he was not intending to praise or insult any of the celebrities featured, but to simply make a comment on what it is to have fame. People took to Twitter to make their comments on the video. While there are PLENTY of tweets saying how insane and bizarre the video was, there was also a large number of people supporting Kanye and stating how genius the video is. The whole world seemed to put their two cents in and they weren't the only ones, plenty of celebs took to social media to give their opinion.
Chris Brown took to Instagram, posting a picture of his wax figure while giving Kanye some sort of praise. "KANYE CRAZY, talented, but crazy" (Chris Brown, Instagram). It seems that enough people think Kanye's video was more amusing and entertaining than offensive and disturbing. Although, if there is any celeb that we should assume has something to say, it's Taylor Swift. Kanye and Taylor have had a long history and their fair share of bad media moments, so it's no surprise that she reacted to the video.
Kanye made it personal with Swift by mentioning her in his lyrics, which Kanye said Taylor was aware of her mentioning, although Swift begs to differ. Not only is she upset about the naked wax figure, but she also stated how furious she was about the strongly misogynistic message and the lyric that called her out. Again, it's no surprise that Kanye finds himself in the middle of the media, which he seems to be happy about. And while the "Famous" video was controversial at the very least, it seems to have done exactly what Kanye wanted it to do, get attention.
