It's spreading among my friends and family one by one, and I'm only a little proud to say I'm one of the sources. Don't worry, it's not deadly, just cute! Pixie cuts and undercuts are rapidly consuming my friend group, and I couldn't be happier, really.

Just about 3 years ago, I had hair past my shoulders and was completely done with it. So I decided I wanted it chopped off, and got a pixie cut that got too many compliments to number. Not too long after, one of my cousins also opted for the easier to maintain 'do, and one of my friends. It really is freeing, especially when you realize just how heavy your hair actually is! Chopping it all off made my head feel about ten times lighter, and my hair wasn't even really that long to begin with.

Cutting your hair seems to be an addition, though - after holding out for a while, I went back and shaved the sides close for a true undercut. Going to college and meeting my (future) roommate saw her with long hair... but just until she decided to change to a pixie cut as well, a few weeks later! Clearly my influence is strong. Just a few months after that, I had to dub her, her boyfriend, and myself the Undercut Squad when they both showed up with undercuts, too. Although my roommate did go a bit further and got an awesome dye job, too.

And now I just got word that one of my best friends back in my hometown got a fresh pixie cut, despite having some really great Hermione-esq locks. How did I find out? When she sent me a Snapchat saying "I'm thinking of cutting my hair like yours" and I responded with an enthusiastic "YES DO IT." And what did I receive the next day but a selfie of her looking truly fabulous with her new 'do? It really does look great on anyone - all you need is the confidence to know you look good and you will!

I love my short hair. My ears get cold in the winter and I have to liberally apply sunscreen to the close-cut sides in the summer, but it dries in minutes and can be styled in even less. That is, on days when I even bother with more styling then a cute side swoop. Plus, I forgot how gross long hair is in the shower until I had to share a bathroom with 24 long-haired girls this past year (my roommate and I were the only ones with hair shorter than shoulder length in our hall). It sticks to the shower walls and clogs up the drains, and it's even more nasty when you know it isn't yours because your hair is nowhere near 8+ inches long. I freely admit to gagging a number of times while in the shower last year at school, just because of the sheer amount of hair I found that most certainly wasn't mine.

So, in conclusion: short hair is awesome and I highly recommend it, especially if you have a communal bathroom. It's already spreading anyways, might as well join in the fun now!
