Dear Reader, this article is to be read with a slight splash of sarcasm in all seriousness.
It was a Friday night, hanging out with the coolest people I know. We catch up on life and how our week has gone. As it gets later into the night, the conversation turns to a deeper level; the topic that we all love hearing about, our newest crush. They start talking about how much they like this girl and how they need a female’s perspective on this case, as my roommate Carly gives me a grinning look. We realized we are absolute “bros.”
You may think, “But your best friend is a girl." Yet no, no. As another girl who hangs out with all guys, we have a common bond/share the same thought process, which makes her equal to a guy friend. She is a "bro."
What makes us consider ourselves to be “bros?”
1. Girls think you’re in a relationship with your best friend based on how much time you spend together.
Girl: “So what’s the deal with you and Matt?!”
2. Unable to find anyone willing to watch a chick flick with you.
“Do we even know any girls?”
3. Trouble finding guys to date now that you have friend zoned all of them.
“Can I date Tom? Nahh that’s too weird.”
4. Understanding how guys think better than girls.
Me: “Is Sarah mad at me? She hasn’t texted me in three days. Girls are so confusing!”
All my life I grew up having male friends, as it was easier for me to connect with them. Of course I had individual female best friends along the way, but cliques of girls were never my forte, which is partly why I joined a sorority. From my experience, whenever there were more than four girls to a group, drama would go down. I never experienced a dramatic “fight,” because you could always see me vacating the premises before the big explosion went off. I found that most guys had different ways of resolving issues and were blatantly honest with their feelings, which made communication easier for me. I found having guy friends had many perks.
The perks of being a "bro"
1. Your friends can answer any confusing thought of the male species.
Most of them can agree that they are confusing.
2. Guys enjoy platonic cuddling as much as girls do. But now they don’t have to cuddle a guy.
Sometimes we just need human touch.
3. You can sit in silence without it being weird.
Let your brain breathe!
4. Your friends can give you the inside scoop on your crush.
If they disapprove, most likely you know they’re right.
Personally I don’t like titles, but whether it’s being called a bro or having all male friends, I love every second of it!
