For the past week, I wore crop tops to my classes. This probably isn't a big deal to most of you, but for me it is. I am a bigger girl, and I accept that but I never really embraced my body through clothing. So, I borrowed a few crop tops from one of my friends (Shout out to Ilisa, girl you the realist) and I started my journey to self-confidence.
It's really quite refreshing as well as interesting to see people accept you for you and are glad that you embrace your body. I was a little tense leaving my building to head out onto campus but as soon as I got into my first class of the day I didn't feel as tense anymore. People were very encouraging, saying things like "YAS GIRL WORK THAT CROP TOP" and "WERK" but in all seriousness, I really enjoyed wearing crop tops. I loved the confidence it gave me as I strutted around campus in a new style.
Even though I wore crop tops for pretty much a full week, it doesn't change the fact that I am a big girl and some people don't think bigger people should show off their bodies. With that being said, we should be confident about our bodies and do whatever works for us regardless of what other people say. Being a bigger girl doesn't mean you have to wear baggy t-shirts all the time, you can whatever the hell you want and rock it. It also just means you have more to love and that's okay too.
What I've learned from this little experience is that honestly, if it makes you feel good and confident, then you should do it. Stop caring about what other people say, and live your life to the fullest. This doesn't just apply to clothing, but also makeup, music, art, anything that makes you different or unique. These are things that make you unique and no one should have to hide their amazing characteristics from anyone. I've also noticed that where I am living and at my school, people are very positive and super accepting which is a big plus. So, in my last words, I'd like to say that please don't be afraid to express yourself in any way. We are all unique and we should embrace ourselves, no matter our differences or insecurities. This has been a really uplifting experience for me, which has boosted my overall confidence in myself, even if it's just something as little as wearing a crop top, you'd be surprised what it can do for you.
