Victoria's Secret is known as the sexiest lingerie brand in the world. As a high-end fashion brand and a household name, millions of women flock to their stores each day to feel sexy, confident, and beautiful. But there's much more to the brand than just the Angel wings; this article is dedicated to the everyday employees of Victoria's Secret and the struggles of retail. DISCLAIMER: This is NOT a diss article to Victoria's Secret or The Limited Brands. It really is a fantastic company and they treat their employees well.
There's Nothing Sexual/ Uncomfortable About a Bra Fitting
One of the key roles associates and specialists have while working the sales floor is making sure every customer has found their "perfect fit." Associates do this by measuring out the customer's band and cup size with a measuring tape, then having them try on the Body by Victoria Demi bra, and further diagnose fit issues from there. One of the largest comments I hear from outside sources are the jokes about getting "up close and personal" with some of these customers. But in case there was any doubt, there is nothing sexual or uncomfortable about a bra fitting! Honestly, most employees are not really paying attention to the actual, physical breasts in front of us rather than making sure our measurements are accurate and that there's no gapping or suffocation occurring when the customer tries on the "perfect fit" bra. Most of the people who ask for bra fittings are either young girls getting their first bras, or older women who have recently had augmentations done or weight changes.
There's No Science Behind the Measuring Tape
While the first part in getting the "perfect fit" for a customer is measuring them out their out tape, this is only a rough estimate as to what size they should be. There's no scientific reasoning or mathematical calculations that confirm that this is the person's exact size. Not only is every bra in the store different, but also every woman's body shapes are different. Also wearing push up bras or sports bras when being measured can alter the measurements a bra specialist reads. Overall, it really just is a trail and error process.
Nothing Lasts Forever, And It's Okay
In order to stay updated with current fashion trends, Victoria's Secret is constantly discontinuing certain products. These can range from bras, apparel, swim, and fragrance. Don't be too disappointed! Victoria's Secret often does bring back these previously discontinued items for winter and summer Semi-Annual Sale in January and July, but only for a limited time. Also, some stores only carry a certain amount of items when compared to other ones. If this is the case where the store does not have an item in the size you were looking for, you can always order it online through the register and it will be shipped to your house for free.
Be Nice to Your Specialists and Associates
There are some things that are out of everyone's control: we don't have the bra size you need, an item you were looking for was discontinued, and the list goes on. But just because things did not go 100% perfect does not mean that you should take it out on your sales associates. Also, when asked at the register if anyone helped you, ALWAYS say someone's name or describe them; even if they only just greeted you. Specialists depend on these sales as part of their monthly income.
We Don't Know What Victoria's Actual Secret Is
Haha, that joke was funny the first hundred times I've heard it. Seriously, stop.
