As someone who practically grew up in a restaurant, it's safe to say that there are more lousy customers out there than anyone would've liked. My parents run a restaurant, and I've worked in multiple ones outside of the family business. You'd expect everyday people to be as kind to workers as they are outside of the restaurant, but unfortunately, that's not the case. We employees work to serve customers, yet some people are ungrateful. From an employee to a customer, here's what I have to say.
1. We work multiple hours a day.
We work four to five hour shifts or perhaps even all day. We're exhausted, and we're just ready to go home. Please don't make us do more work than what is necessary.
2. We have no say in anything.
We're only the employees. We have no power to change your menu prices or how to do our jobs. As much as we want to refund your $70 meal, we can't.
3. Your food is coming.
Food takes time to prepare, you know. Unless you want an undercooked meal, we advise you to just wait.
4. Delivery takes a while.
Yes, our restaurant is only 10 minutes away from where you live, but like mentioned above, food takes time to prepare and pack. Additionally, our drivers have to make multiple stops in one go. If you're really this impatient, then come pick it up instead.
5. We are never truly sorry for your mistakes.
Yes, we feel guilty sometimes for our mistakes, but there are times where we couldn't care less. You ordered what you didn't want? You were rude to us? Sorry, not sorry.
6. We get busy.
If you can't see the long line of customers waiting or the phone calls coming in one after the other, you must be blind and deaf. We're trying to serve everyone at once, and you just have to wait.
7. We're doing just fine, thanks for your concern.
Thank you so much for that comment you just made. Thank you so much for making us rush so we can satisfy an individual need. Thank you so much for looking down on us and complaining about us when you're the one who voluntarily came here for our services.

8. We don't determine the prices of food.
Lobsters are quite expensive if you haven't noticed. So is fresh fish when we're miles away from the coast. But the rice can't be that bad, right? Try washing the rice, cooking it, then making it into what you ordered with five additional ingredients. Preparation and cooking is time consuming.
9. You don't tip well.
We have low wages, and we rely on our tips to make money. But what's the point of pouring out our heart and serve the best to our abilities when all you do is tip poorly, complain and make rude comments?
10. Know what you're ordering before you call.
When we take your phone call, we're temporarily stopping other tasks to take your order. Don't waste our time. It's infuriating when we spend five minutes on a phone call just for you to order a small soup.
11. Read the menu.
Yes, this meal comes with this, this and that. It clearly says so on our menu right under here. It also gives a description of what this entree is.
12. Your misunderstanding is not our problem.
You ordered what you ordered. If you had read the menu or asked clearly, there wouldn't be this problem.
14. It's just a sauce.
Please, it's only 50 cents. We apologize for that, and we'll even give your multiple store credits to make up for it. But please, please, please do not make us deliver it to your house that's 20 minutes away when we're busy.

15. We're not stealing your credit card information.
You wanted to pay by card over the phone. You're going to have to tell us your information. If we ask for you to repeat it, it's because we missed a digit or so, not because we're recording the information on a separate sheet of paper to hack your bank account.
16. The tables are not clean.
Yes, I get that you want to sit in that specific booth right there, but if you haven't noticed, there are still plates on the table. We cannot seat you there unless you wait.
17. Don't request for other seating arrangements unless it's really needed.
Waiters and waitresses are on a rotating schedule or have their own sections in the restaurant. It's our job as the host to make sure they have an equal amount of people to serve. Don't mess it up for us.
18. Don't argue with the employees.
Despite what you think, we know what we're doing.
19. "Can I speak to the manager?"
The manager is either busy or not here. And besides, they're going to tell you the exact same thing as we're telling you now. What you can do is just listen any other employees or me; after all, I'm the manager's daughter.
