Confessions Of An Organized Mess

I'm done hiding my clean little secrets.

Neat freak? Borderline OCD? Germaphobe? Cleanliness junkie? Organizational guru?

What am I? To be honest, I'm not really sure.

I have these quirks, and though they are not super odd, they have always been with me and I am certain they always will be. I have often been teased -- though do not be mistaken, that does not bother me and is not the point of this article -- for my proneness to clean and order. All I know is that my strange and very persistent tendencies have been with me my entire life. They are often noticed by others. Definitely noticed by me. Sometimes my need for perfection can leave me a wreck. I certainly hope I am not alone. Assuming there are others of you out there, allow me to speak for us. When we are not in our optimal surroundings, we kind of become a mess. Maybe I can help others understand what it's like to be they way we are...

I won't leave any bag, shelf, nook, or cranny in any sort of disarray. Ever. This is one aspect that serves me relatively well, as I always know where my stuff is. Never in my life have I made a pile of clothes on the floor and just left it there. I don't understand how people can do this. Although, the movies make it look pretty cool/typical of popular girls so maybe I'll try tossing clothes all over my room while getting ready sometime.

This one is a partial shout-out to anyone that has ever had to live with me because I know some of these affect roommates as well. I am always tidying up. Whether that entails the kitchen, bathroom, or random belongings (that are not always mine), I can't help it. I won't be able to sleep if I know on the other side of the wall the couch cushions are in disarray. I'm the person who will get up just to move something 2 centimeters to get it back in its "place." I would happily play house in the Container Store and Ikea forever.

Packing is a blast. A car, a purse, a lunch. Anything! Even if it is just a plastic bag I am packing to take from here to there in 30 seconds, it will be situated in a coordinated fashion. Also, packing a suitcase is strangely fun(?) I know most people hate packing and unpacking but I literally thrive. I also take pride in the fact I can fit twice what the normal person can fit in their luggage.

One good thing is my clean-freakishness keeps me pretty healthy (a.k.a. has probably destroyed my immune system ~woops~). I shower every day with rare exceptions. I clean my phone regularly. Washing my hands is a not-so-great one. I do it exceedingly often. I need to cut down on that -- unless it's flu season -- then you be like me!

My bed is actually sacred. No one touches it if they are sweaty or dirty -- including me. You'll never see me tucked in bed napping away in my "day clothes." And don't even get me started if the pillows are switched from their normal places.

Order is just a part of my life. Cleanliness is my friend. I'm comfortable when I have everything in its designated place. I'll never be opinion-less on cabinet organization. I come home and put my backpack in the same place every day. I'm sorry: my room will never be messy. But I am happy this is the way I am. My future career will benefit from this dedication and semi-obsession. I realize I take it to extremes sometimes by allowing these things to take over my life. And as much as I hate the irony of it, I guess that just makes me a mess of my own.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
