Confessions of a Craftaholic

Acceptance is the first step to recovery.

So I need to come clean about something to you all... I'm a crafting addict. I spend hours painting, and mod-podging, and sprinkling glitter all over everything. Just ask my housemates. It's scary the number of times they have come home to me crafting my stress out on the floor of our home.

Does anyone know any crafting anonymous numbers I can call, because I need some serious help. The good news is, I know I'm not alone! I know that dozens of others fall under the category of "craftaholic" too. If you relate to any of the below truths, consider yourself a member of the craftaholic club, of which I am the president.

You spend a painful amount of money on craft supplies.

The amount of money you spend on paint, brushes, ribbon, glitter, etc is enough to feed a small country. And you do not regret any of it. You needed that seventh bottle of red paint!

Your paint collection is the 8th wonder of the world.

You've got purples and blues aplenty. You've got greens and yellows galore! You need oranges? You've got 20! But who cares? No big deal. YOU NEED MORE!

"I can't I need to finish this painting for myself." Is a valid excuse to not go out with your friends.

You willingly choose to stay home and paint another coffee mug than go out and party wth your friends. And they totally understand.

The people at the craft store know you by name.

"Oh hello Emma! How are you? We just got this beautiful new metallic pink shade in. Perfect for that canvas you are painting for your mother!"

True story.

You're a master of procrastination.

I know I need to have that assignment due by midnight, but these shirts aren't going to decorate themselves!

You're also a master of justification.

I'll just paint one more canvas. In case my little doesn't like one of the other ones I made her. And repeat.

All your clothes have stains.

Some of them have spots of glitter. A couple have specs of paint. A few more have hot glue or Modpodge on them. Oh what I wouldn't give for an unstained T-shirt.

You rope all your friends into helping you complete all your projects.

It starts with something small. You offer them some paint and a canvas to doodle on and the next thing they know they are on their hands and knees struggling with a tarp and attempting to paint a banner.

True story.

You hand make all your gifts.

Hand making a gift makes it more special, and no one knows that better than craftaholics.

Your friends have no more space left on their walls. Or closets. Or drawers.

If you're going to craft an excessive amount of gifts and canvases and coffee mugs, and do-dads, you may as well make them for someone else.

You impulsively take on huge challenges far beyond your skill set.

You might decide to sew an entire new outfit, even though you've never sewn anything a day in your life. Or you may find yourself knitting a dog sweater when you don't even own a dog and you have no idea how to knit...

Pinterest is your favorite website.

And it's also the source of most of your crafting inspiration.

If crafting needs to be done, everyone comes directly to you.

A banner needs finished? They come knocking on your door. A shirt needs patched? They come running to you. After all, if you're going to craft it may as well be for something.

If you too are a crafting addict, just know that you are not alone. After all, if anyone says that your crafting is a bad thing, they aren't really your friend. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
