Who did you obsess over?

Confessions Of An Ex-Fangirl

With today’s technology it is easy to follow what’s going on in the lives of our favorite celebrities. If you have enough time on your hands, social media such as Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube can make it feel like you know these celebrities on a personal level. Young girls (and boys too) who fall in love with celebrities know everything about them, and feel the personal connection from social media are known as “fangirls.” In high school my friends and I were huge fangirls. Being so obsessed with a celebrity can lead you to do some crazy things in order to get a glimpse or even just a tweet from that celebrity. In my case I went through phases of being in love with many different bands and celebrities. We specifically loved pop icons such as the Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, One Direction, and 5 Seconds Of Summer, etc. Here are only a few of the many crazy things that we did as fangirls:

1. Stayed up until 5am watching a livestream that was happening on the other side of the world.

2. Watched every single interview that we could possibly find on YouTube of our favorite celebrity.

3. Since we watched every video and saw every post, we thought we knew EVERYTHING about them.

4. We knew every single word to every song they ever sang (Including covers).

5. Since we were too young to have jobs, every dollar from birthdays and holidays went to band merch that we still have in the back of our closets because we are too guilty to get rid of it.

6. We got banned from Twitter because we were sending too many tweets trying to make the celebrity follow us.

7. Waited in line for eight or more hours in the pouring rain in order to get a good spot at a general admission concert.

8. Had tickets to every concert that was happening in the next year within a three hour radius of our town.

9. Had post-concert depression for about a week after every concert to the point where our parents wondered why they kept allowing us to go to the shows.

10. If we found out they were in a city near us we would all go and walk around aimlessly hoping we would run into them.

11. Invited our friends over to just sit in bed and obsess over the celebrity over social media.

12. Judged a friend hardcore if she didn’t know every single thing about the celebrity.

Looking back now, we had way too much time on our hands. The things we did as fangirls were so embarrassing but in all honesty, it helped us get through the awkward teenage years. In fact, sometimes I wish I could go back to such a simple time in my life when I was able to concentrate on someone else's life instead of focusing on my own all the time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
