Picture this, it's the first cool day in September and a gust wind blows causing the first leaf of the season to be swept off its branch and fall. That leaf marks the beginning of what is known as pumpkin spice latte season. A season I will never understand, and as a girl, people don't understand why I don't understand. As a girl, apparently, I'm obsessed with pumpkin spice lattes...
I don't like pumpkin spice lattes.
I've never understood the hype around this fall drink. Girls today seem to go crazy when September rolls around and the smell of spice leaks from Starbucks. It's like a version of Dawn of the Dead. Girls are just banging and sucking on the glass windows of Starbucks crying for their prized drink. And I walk by confused and slightly horrified.
Personally, I find the drink too sweet and the flavor doesn't live up to the hype. Yes, I can confidently say that I've tried a pumpkin spice latte before dismissing it ; I'm not one of those people who doesn't like something just because it's popular. I mean I love a good pumpkin loaf or muffin, but liquefying the flavor just has me turning the other way.
Honestly, I just don't get it.
But don't get me wrong I do look forward to the Fall and you'll probably catch me at one point or another telling you a few reasons why I love fall, turning into one of those typical Fall memes. I love nothing more than putting on a warm sweater, black leggings and my comfy UGGs on a cool Fall day. I love kicking my UGGs through a pile of leaves and going pumpkin and apple picking.
On the other hand, I find the season to be bittersweet. Because let's be real we all know what comes after a Fall...
*Turns to camera, breaks forth wall* "Winter is coming."
So maybe that's why I truly despise, well that's a strong word, but don't like pumpkin spice lattes because they mark the beginning of the end. Truly, I look forward to the winter variety of drinks. A peppermint mocha will excite me more than any Fall spiced drink. Hopefully, this year the cup will be a little less controversial. In the meantime, as fall comes into town I'll keep myself busy by drinking less hashtag worthy drinks and harvesting other seasonal goods.
Cheers!
