In 2002, Martina McBride debuted her single 'Concrete Angel'. This song is about a young girl who is being abused by her mother. In the music video, the girl puts on a fake smile to hide the pain of what goes on at home. Next morning, the little girl has been murdered by her mother. She, then, joins angels who were also murdered through child abuse. It also featured the phone number for the child abuse hotline.
The writers of this song, Rob Crosby and Stephanie Bentles, wanted the world to stop child abuse since it was spreading everywhere. The writers used vigilantism and descriptive words to make the audience feel the main character's pain. The narrator, Martina McBride, beautifully illustrated the story with her voice. It drew more attention and emotion to the song's storyline.
I remember reading this book called, 'A Child Called "It"'. It's an autobiography about an author's obstacle to overcome child abuse. Dave Pelzer, author, is such an inspiration. Pelzer is an example of us having the capability to better ourselves no matter what the odds. Even the most successful people, surprisingly, encounter hardship.
Child abuse should never be a result of any situation. Children need the utmost attention. That's where most people go wrong. How could you be angry towards a baby? It all boils down, like my grandmother says, "treat people the way you want to be treated." If you want respect, you're going to have to give it. That goes for everyone. Society is fixed to problems. We are too numb to care, or at least support awarenesses. Yet, proper parenting to children suppose to cure child abuse? The children physically, mentally, and emotionally? It saddens my spirit to know that child abuse stills exist.
