A couple weekends ago, I spent all of Saturday and Sunday at a music festival. I put some glitter on, embraced the hour wait surrounded by sweaty people to see my favorite bands (despite the fact that I now consider myself claustrophobic), and just enjoyed all the music as a whole.
Some people feel that music festivals, or even concerts in general, are a waste of money and not something to spend the time or effort on. However, for me, I feel they are one of the things in life that are worth spending your money on. There are quotes that say the only thing you can buy that will make you richer is travel. I feel that concerts should be included as well.
My first concert was, of course, Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers. I had my brand new purple digital camera all charged up, and sang my heart out when “Year 3000” rocked the arena. From that moment on, I was hooked.
As I grew older, whenever my favorite artists would come in town, tickets would be on the top of my list for either my birthday or Christmas. Even though I wouldn’t get something material out of it, (besides the tickets itself, which I always keep) I always knew it was worth it.
Now, I will admit I have been very lucky with concerts in the past. I had the opportunity to go to a very small venue to see Taylor Swift after her second album. It was breathtaking to see the fact that, yes, Taylor Swift is just another person like all of us. She breathes the same air that we breathe. I also saw Ed Sheeran from the third row. Let me tell you, this will be a night I will never forget. I swear I could feel his sweat on me, that’s how close he was. It was awesome.
Regardless, no matter where you are for a concert, you will still always have a great time. I have seen both Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran after these once in a lifetime experiences and had just as much fun as I did before. No matter where you are, hearing music live is something that you can not encounter anywhere else.
Music festivals are another great way to see a lot of artists for not a terrible amount of money. While it looks like a lot of money at first, once you see multiple artists, the amount you paid for each concert decreases. For Music Midtown in Atlanta, I essentially paid $22 for Bruno Mars. There is no other time you can ever see Bruno Mars for that cheap.
Music is something that has always been apart of my life. I have always used music no matter what mood I was in. Happy, sad, lonely, you name it, there’s a song for it. Having a chance to see these songs played live, is an experience like no other. Whether the song means something to me, or it’s just a great song to dance to, concerts will always be worth it to me.
