Are Concerts Still A Safe Space
MetroLyrics

Right?

The entire atmosphere is completely safe.

Wait a minute...

They sure are supposed to be. Out of the many concerts I have been to I have never felt threatened or fearful for what may happen. Maybe I should start worrying now. Maybe we all should. In America, though, we have tight security and that is due to the dreadful and horrific events of September 11, 2001. With good reason our security has stepped up their game in airports, stadiums, venues, and more. Why isn't this the same case for the United Kingdom and places beyond?

With learning about the developing story happening out of Manchester last night at the Ariana Grande show, it was said that there was absolutely no pat downs or security checkpoints on the way inside the arena. Now, I understand that the terrifying event happened directly outside the arena. I know that, but imagine what could have happened had this disgusting human being gone inside the arena. With absolutely nothing holding him back, the fatalities of these young and innocent victims could have been much higher.

As for being outside the arena, security needs to become one hundred times tighter and more aware of what is going on in the surrounding areas. Has that second bomb gone off that was found, many more people could have been harmed and/or killed. Luckily that did not happen, but the matter of the fact is this was a target at innocent people who just wanted to see their favorite artist live and in real time. After the events that happened at a concert in Paris two years ago, you would think the security systems overseas would become stronger and more aware. Yet, nothing happened. The Manchester attack is proof of that.

No one deserved to be harmed or killed at this event. Ariana herself does not deserve to be blamed for this. I have seen countless tweets and posts about this entire ordeal being Ariana's fault and that is definitely not the case. How can people be so cruel and heartless as to blame this individual for the tragedy that happened on May 22, 2017? Ariana is a human being just like the lot of you reading this right now. She is a human being before a celebrity. She has a heart and a soul just like the rest of us. Not only did she most likely fear for her own safety, but to be in her shoes knowing that her dear and loving fans were on the ground, murdered, is enough to set her into her own grieving. Ariana seems to believe that this is her fault according to her tweet that states, "broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words."

In no way does this 23 year old woman deserve to be blamed for the doings of a selfish, disgusting, malicious suicide bomber. This event has affected Ariana deeply along with the victims, her team, and the entire world. No one should fear going to a concert because these places are supposed to be filled with smiles, laughter, and joy. I am lucky to say I have experienced these emotions when going to the amount of concerts I have and as I sit here writing this article, it pains me to think of everyone involved in the Manchester attack.

I sit here and think, "What if that had happened at the concerts I've attended?" It is such a terrifying thought to be in my mind along with others, but it is the world that we live in now. We must always be aware of our surroundings and if we see anything suspicious happening, we need to tell the authorities or anyone around us. It could help save lives.

We need to come together not only as a nation, but internationally as well. We need to fight these terrorists and all of the others who think these types of events are okay to proceed with. We need to be there for others and for ourselves.

We need to understand and realize that this world is not filled with peace and it is likely that the entire universe of civilization will never exist in one hundred percent peace. It is the awful reality we live in.

As I end this piece of writing, I just want to say that I am heartbroken by the events that happened in Manchester and all of the other horrifying events all over the world. My heart aches for the innocent lives lost.

It is time to stand together and fight.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
