I ended up in Seoul with my best friends from high school, and it was great to see them all again. But last Saturday, I decided to experience something on my own.
Personally, I enjoy K-Pop, and I found out that one of my favorite stars would be having his concert when I would be in Korea. When I saw the announcement, I was squealing with excitement on the inside. Since the tickets weren't too expensive, I told myself, "Why not? Life is all about taking risks and having fun. I might not be able to experience something like this for another few years anyway."
I sat at my laptop and clicked on the "purchase tickets" buttons. After I got my confirmation, I was in shock as to what I just did but mostly excited because he was one of my favorite singers of all time.
Fast forward to last Saturday when it actually happened, I parted from my friends at 2 p.m. and had to get to the arena by myself. I had to ask directions by myself (with my broken Korean that I picked up from watching too many dramas) because my app was not giving me the right directions.
The concert itself would start at 6. However, I had to be there by 3 p.m. so it was quite awkward just standing there by myself constantly scrolling on my phone while everyone else would be talking to their friends. Besides that, we were lining up in an underground tunnel with no ventilation whatsoever, and this just happens to be the hottest summer in South Korea in a long while so I was literally drenched in sweat.
However, here's something that shocked me: a girl suddenly came up to me while I was in line and passed me a cooling patch (the ones you usually use when you have a fever). Apparently, she had brought a bunch of it and was distributing it to all the fans who were there. Just when I was still in a daze from her kind actions, another girl came up to me and passed me a plastic hand fan (containing the picture of the singer we were about to see).
These actions really took me by surprise because I have been to a couple of concerts and I have never experienced something like this. These kind actions actually helped me to survive the heat wave that I was battling in that underground tunnel.
When I finally entered the arena, it felt like a dream at first. I couldn't believe that I actually made it here all by myself.
The concert itself was amazing. I screamed my lungs out, and it was so fun. The one thing I like about K-Pop concerts is their lightsticks. Every group/idol would have their own specific lightstick which fans are able to purchase and use it for the concerts.
This was the lightstick that I was using.
This was how the concert venue looked like with all the lights, so dreamy and beautiful.
Was it scary at first? Yes, it was.
But as time passed, all I did was just live in the moment and have fun. I sang along to all the songs and screamed to the top of my lungs. I forgot I was in a foreign country (well, not until he spoke Korean and I was constantly wondering what's going on).
Till this day, I still relive the moment because it was really a night to remember for a long while. So, to the readers who are reading this, it's time to live in this moment and start doing the things that you always wanted to do.
This might sound cliche, but YOLO.
