College is one of the most expensive things (if not the most expensive thing) you will ever pay for. Although it is completely necessary, in order to work without technically working – you know that saying right? College makes it easier to achieve your long-term goals and you also meet people who you could be friends with for the rest of your life.
Why we have to pay an arm and a leg on tuition and campus fees, I will never know. I do know that you can save money by slumming it in Traditional dorms.
Traditional dorms at Oklahoma State University start off at a low $1,995 a semester. That’s pretty cheap when you realize what it comes with.
If you think about it, living in an apartment on-campus can cost up to $3,995. Even though that is furnished, you still have to pay for toilet paper and hand soap and you need to clean your bathroom and your living room. You may be paying more for privacy and less people but you’re also paying to clean your own place. For some people that’s difficult.
That’s why living in a traditional dorm is great.
You don’t have to clean your bathroom or supply toilet paper or hand soap. The only housekeeping thing you need to do is keep your bedroom clean; vacuum every once in a while, take out your trash and wash your dishes.
Living in a traditional dorm comes with some negatives too. The bathrooms will smell no matter how much housekeeping cleans them because you’re living on a floor with 60 other people, it’s bound to smell bad.
Another negative to living with 60+ people on a floor with two bathrooms is that the housekeeping crew most likely does not get paid enough to put up with your nonsense. Community dorm bathrooms are some of the most disgusting places to ever exist. Am I being dramatic? Sure. Am I being a baby? Probably, but, I too, live in these glorious traditional dorms. In fact, I just moved from one traditional dorm to another and I didn’t think the bathrooms could get any worse. But, oh, they can. I guess some people don’t find the need to ask for new shower curtains that don’t stick together or have holes in them.
The lack of respect that some girls have for the place where they live and sleep is disgusting. Literally disgusting, the cleaning crew do their best to fix what the women on my floor mess up, ie: over-flowing trashcans, mountains of hair in the shower and toothpaste and food in the sinks (that’s how we wash our dishes). But no amount of bleach or scrubbing can take away the nightmare that is a traditional dorm.
Community style is a beautiful dorm. You can learn so many things about people and different cultures. You discover who you are and if your parents taught you everything, or most everything, you need to live on your own.
