1. Lending out money.
If someone asks to “borrow” money and they say they will pay you back, don't buy it. Even if they say they will pay you back doesn’t mean that they actually will …
2. Partying at the beginning of the week.
It It is amazing how many parties go on during the week. Don’t go out to parties in the beginning of the week unless it’s a special occasion (i.e. Syllabus Week). Remember, you have class the next day! You’re either going to miss your lecture or you’re going to show up with a really bad hangover. You have to stay on your study grind during the week. Besides, there's always Friday night ...
3. Forgetting what day it is.
Make sure you know what day it is so you don’t end up going to the wrong classes. Always check your email and the day’s date before leaving your house/apartment/dorm, so you can avoid going to class when it was actually canceled...
4. Waking up 10 minutes before class starts.
Your body needs at least half an hour to wake up. If you get up 10 minutes before class starts, not only are you going to look like you have a terrible hangover, but you are also going to have a hard time staying focused.
5. Stressing about your roommate.
Sometimes, you don’t have a say in who your roommate is. But whether you have an assigned roommate or one of your choosing, make sure that you’re both on the same page. If problems arise try talking to him/her, and if that doesn’t work you can always go above his/her head for help.
6. Pulling an all-nighter.
It has been proven that those who get a good night’s sleep tend to work better. If you are pulling all-nighters consistently, you probably need to work on your time-management skills.
7. Mentally "checking out."
As we get further into the semester, exams, projects, and homework begin to pile up. However, this by no means is an excuse to "check out." Even if you’re not interested in particular classes, try to keep in mind that they are important and will help you get to the next stage of your academic career. Classes won’t last forever, so be positive and know that in the end you will be better off.
8. Taking morning classes.
Don’t take morning classes unless you are a morning person. You will probably end up missing several lectures because you overslept and your grades will begin to suffer. After 10 o'clock is generally a good time to start the day.
9. Leaving your food unattended or without your name on it.
If you leave food out without putting any indication on it that it is yours, chances are that it will not be there when you get back ...
