11 Comments Or Questions To Never Ask A Student Who Attends A Women's College

In society, there are unspoken rules about which comments or questions to never ask people; for example, the film "Mean Girls" establishes that you should never ask someone from South Africa, "Why are you white?" There are just some things we can all agree on that no one should ever say. But, this list of "unspeakable comments or questions" needs to be updated for 2015. There are a lot of sexist and derogatory comments and questions that need to be added -- come on world, we are better than this.

As a freshman at an all-women's college, I have been asked a multitude of offensive questions and have had rude remarks made to me about my choice in schooling. Here is a list of the things that no one should ever say to a female who attends an all-women's college.

1. "Why would you ever want to go to a school filled with the same gender?"

My answer to this is always the same. Since I go to an all-women's college I no longer have to worry about comments about not wearing makeup and looking "sick." Also, there are less distractions.

2. "Are you going to turn into a lesbian?"

Well considering the fact that you cannot just "transform" into a lesbian as if it is a contagious disease... no, I do not think I will be "turning into" a lesbian.

3. "How are you going to find a husband?"

I am here to get my bachelor's degree, not my "Mrs. degree," so finding a husband is the least of my concerns at the moment.

4. "There has to be a lot of drama -- it's an all-girls' school!"

Actually, there is not any more drama than if it was a co-ed school.

5. "Wait, is that a real thing?"

Do not ever ask this.

6. Is (insert all-women's college name here)'s mascot a vibrator?"

This is sexist and derogatory. I'll say it again louder for the people in the back who can't hear me: This is sexist and derogatory! Please do not treat us as if we do not have access to men and are locked inside of the college.

7. "Didn't you have other options?"

Yes, I had a lot of other options. A school being co-ed was not exactly on my "must have" list.

8. "So does that make you like a feminist?"

Yes, because I am now taking all feminist classes and am being brainwashed into a secret cult that breeds feminists.

9. "Are you all on the same menstrual cycle?"

No, honey, just no.

10. "So is that just a training ground for housewives?"

That is not even a real thing!

11. "Do you ever see boys?"

No, because boys and men now all become invisible with my acceptance letter.

Remember to never say these things to women who attend all-women's colleges because these are just really rude to ask. You would never ask someone who attends a co-ed university if they had any other options or if they are sexually challenged. Just ask yourself how would you feel if the roles were reversed.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
