Coming home for summer after being away at college is a jumble of emotions. For one thing, you're glad to be home and incredibly happy that you get to sleep in your own bed. It's a huge relief to get to snuggle with your dog again, and seeing your parents is pretty OK, too (of course, you're happier to see them than you care to admit). Plus, seeing your friends that you haven't seen in months is heavenly, and you just want to be around them and pester them 24/7 again. On the other hand, however, you miss the friends that you made at school, and you miss your teachers and classes, and even your RA. You miss living in a "Living Learning Community," and of course, your lovely roommate. Sure, coming home is fun, but there's some serious sadness that comes along with it.
It's really hard to leave your newfound friends for four months because you're honestly terrified that they won't love you when you return in the fall. You also don't live down the hall from them anymore and you won't be able to go on fun, spontaneous adventures. That fills you with immense sadness, and you end up missing your dorm more than you could ever imagine. You miss the nights where you had your door wide open, and people would pop into chat and hang out. Now, you sit in your room with your door closed because your family is getting on your nerves and you just need some alone time. For some reason, you're a lot moodier when you're home.
Also, you're bored, like, all the time. Sure, you love having free time to binge-watch "Criminal Minds," but after a while, you actually get tired of not having friends easily at your disposal and *gasp* school projects to do. Plus, you also have to get a job and contribute to the household, and that's a lot of work. You're thinking, "Mom, I just got done doing a year of hard labor, you can totally let me have this next four months to sleep and let the existential dread set in."
It seems like your friends are always busy with work or summer classes, and that really sucks, because when you came home, you realized you only had about three people you wanted to hang out with all summer. You wish you could live on their couches and just watch Netflix and eat Pizza Rolls with them all day, but they have lives, and unfortunately, so do you. So, you wait around for their texts, and get super excited when you have the ability to finally see your BFF again.
Coming home from college is great, but it's really not what you expected. You find yourself missing school a lot more than you thought you would, and missing your friends from home because you guys are unfortunately busy all summer. You're conflicted, because part of you wants to stay home forever, but the other part just can't wait to go back.
