11 Reasons Why Saying "Hello" To Summer Is So Hard After College
Twenty20

The ending of the school year is very bittersweet. After following the same routine for the last nine months, leaving is more than just a little hard. You are used to setting your own rules and never having to ask anyone for permission. Yet, with the school year ending, it is time to say hello to mom and dad and goodbye to your freedom. So let's take some time and reminisce on what we will miss most about college.

1. Because moving out of my dorm is so much work

You don't realize how much stuff you truly have until you have to shove it all into your family car and realize it doesn't fit. When your mom asks, "where did all of this come from?" and your only answer is a shrug -- that's college.

2. Because the food I like, or sort of like, isn't right there with a swipe of a card

Flex dollars were a must to survive living in the dorms. Let's be honest, how often can you really eat dining hall food? But, you have to admit, having a variety of food just downstairs is pretty convenient. We all know that mom and dad won't be cooking for you 24/7.

3. Because I won't see the quad every day

The quad. Oh, the beautiful quad. While I'm sure that your neighborhood park is nice, is it really as nice as the quad? With all the trees it is the perfect place to study or just hang out with friends. Plus, it's so pretty and relaxing *sigh*.

4. Because now I have to ask permission every time I go out

Just when you were getting used to doing whatever you wanted. That has all changed my friends. I doubt your parents will be cool with you leaving in and out of the house. So let us all prepare ourselves for the who, what, when, where, and why questions.

5. Because going out until 3 a.m. is no longer acceptable

Umm, this most definitely will not fly. Your parents, unless they are super chill, are not going to think this is okay. They may think you are an alcoholic. They may worry too much about you.

6. Because now I have to get a job

Surviving the summer with just $4 will not do. Pretty sure our parents are done giving us money. So, off to find jobs we go! You will probably hate it, but at least it is only for the summer.

7. Because all my friends live in different areas

Long gone are the days of your friends being down the hall, a couple of floors up or down, or a few minutes away. Now you actually have to make an effort to see each other. Why *insert crying face emoji*?!?!?!

8. Because I didn't know that people I met nine months ago would become such a big part of my life

Okay, so you probably didn't expect the goodbyes to be so hard. Yet, they were. These are the people that have become your family. Your home away from home. They say that home is where the heart is. I guess your heart is split in between two different places for the summer then.

9. Because not seeing the same people every day feels like there is something missing

I can't. It's too hard. I need my friends. I miss them. Why are they so far away? Can we just go back? Not to classes, but to being two minutes away from your friends.

10. Because even though I love my family, they drive me crazy

Coming home for the weekends and breaks was cool. The family is cool, it's all cool. You have spent months away from your family and even though you love them, they are driving you crazy.

11. Because now I have to go family parties

During the school year, you could get away with ditching these! Now, you can be spotted at every family gathering. If you thought your immediate family was bad, boy were you wrong. You will be hanging with all your little cousins and weird family. Of course, you will probably be stuck babysitting them because you are one of the oldest. Doesn't being home from college sound great?

After spending the last nine months working your butt off, a break is needed. Even though it was hard to say, I am sure that we are all thrilled to be done with finals. Just remember that summer is short and that in two to three months, you will be back to normal.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
