10 Reasons Coming Home For Winter Break Is The BEST

I love living away at college, but coming home has its perks.

I learned that I love living on my own. It's nice to have my own space to live in. But, I also learned it's really hard. I don't have all the perks I did living at home. Being home for Winter break showed me that I am absolutely spoiled at home compared to living at college.

Yummy home cooked meals.

My Mom is an amazing cook. She can literally cook anything and it's always amazing. Every Saturday I wake up to a nice home cooked breakfast.

So many snacks!

Giphy

My Mom always has an over abundance of snacks at home. Fruit, chips, cookies, and so much more. In my budget at school, I only have money for real food like eggs.

Being with family during the holidays.

I love being around my family even though they're completely nuts. I always miss them throughout the school year. Being able to have so much time off to spend with my family for the holidays is definitely a pro of being home for break. Holidays are so much more fun when you don't have to worry about going back to school right away.

You don't have to walk in the cold.

Giphy

Honestly, I love walking around campus. I look at it as extra exercise but in the cold, it's not so fun. At home, the most I have to walk in the cold is to my car that's in the driveway.

Better WiFi and free printing.

Giphy

Everything internet related is so much better. Netflix streaming is flawless at home. It's perfect for binging Netflix or streaming movies. Also, printing is FREE. While I'm home, I print pictures and random things I probably don't even need to print but will because it's free... at least for me (sorry Dad).

Seeing hometown friends.

Giphy

Hometown friends is always a great part about coming home. Chilling and relaxing in one of our basements brings old memories back. I love catching up with them and seeing what they're doing with their lives.

Not going out every weekend.

Giphy

It's pretty hard not to go out every weekend at college. At home, you're home almost every weekend. It's actually so relaxing not being worried about going somewhere. Movie nights with my dog and my boyfriend is my go to winter break weekend.

Saving money.

Giphy

I save so much money when I'm at home. I don't have to buy groceries and I don't go out as much. If I do go out to eat, usually Mom and Dad cover the bill. Thanks Mom & Dad.

You don't have to do your own laundry or pay for it.

Giphy

Doing laundry at school is a pain. It costs money and it's just not the same as home washed clothes. My Mom takes care of my laundry, although, I do help her.

Sleeping in your own bed.

Giphy

I sleep like a baby in my home bed. My school bed is just fine but it took awhile to get used to it. I could stay in my home bed everyday of break if I could.

Don't take advantage of being home for the holidays. Spend time with your family, friends, and spend time relaxing. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and have a wonderful break!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
