The transition from high school to college took some time to get used to, but that was to be expected. No one told me that the move home for the summer from college would also be a less than smooth transition. Here are just a few things that I've felt/noticed in my 24 hours of being home.
1) The rekindled love for driving.
If you don't have your car on campus with you, the first thing you want to do is go for a drive, partly because you want to make sure you still know how.
2) Your room is... not your room
All I'm going to say about this one is, consider yourself lucky if you come home and you haven't been relocated to "an area" aka the basement or the attic.
3) You've been replaced.
In my case, my mom has replaced me with a four legged, furry, terror. Although he's adorable, he's a handful and is obviously my mom's new favorite. It's okay though, it keeps her happy those 9 months I'm away.
4) Less privacy.
Long live the nights I could come and go as I please, now I am greeted with 50 questions when I walk through the door, and 100 when I try and leave. Oh how I've missed you mom.
5) You feel like a stranger.
When did we get those curtains? And was that picture always there?
6) Having no homework feels too weird.
Even with two jobs, I'm still not accustomed to the fact that for the next two months I have no homework or tests to study for.
7) You pick right back up with your home friends.
You thought you would be lonely and miss your friends from school all summer, but your best friends are right there waiting for you, and you realize nothing has changed.
8) You feel excited to be home.
Despite the changes, and mixed emotions, you realize there really is no place like home. It's been a long, tiring semester, and laying in your own bed for a few hours seems only right.
