Going to college is hard, going to college away from your significant other makes it harder.
Let me start by saying that my boyfriend and I have been together for almost four years. We started dating senior year of high school, we were friends for a while prior and went to different high schools. He got accepted into Florida State and I got accepted into Florida Gulf Coast, which are about six and a half hours away from each other.
I know what some of you are probably thinking, that's not too bad. Well, at the time, I didn't have my license or a car and the furthest we had been away from each other was thirty minutes and even then we saw each other every Sunday.
Now, let's talk about what being at different colleges is really like. It's a lot of texting and Snapchatting, it's going hours without talking to each other because of work, class, and busy schedules. It's getting sad over seeing couples on campus or on Valentine's Day because you can't be with your significant other. It's planned out Skype calls, it's counting down the days until break so you can finally see each other, it's random weekend visits if one of you can swing it. It's not seeing each other for months, it's hearing people say "isn't it tough to be apart for so long?" and "I don't know how you do it." It's longing for your person and not being able to do anything about it.
But most importantly, it's cherishing the time you spend together when you're able to be together and cherishing the little things, like a simple yet thoughtful gift or text message.
