College vs. High School

How college is WAY different than high school.

College vs. High School

College and high school are two very different and unique experiences.

1. Homework

High school:

Homework in high school is basically a joke. We were asked to maybe read a few pages in a book, which nobody ever did by the way since everything we read was gone over in excessive detail the next day of class.

High school:

Most kids in high school live at home with their families where their fridge contains normal household food items.

College:

Meanwhile in college your fridge looks more like this:

3. Going out

High School:

Most high schoolers have a curfew that they are ALWAYS arguing with their parents to extend because they think it's too early. (Mine was 11pm. UGH.)

College:

Meanwhile, most college students normally live in a dorm with no parents or guardians to tell us when we have to be home.

4. Laundry

High School:

When I was in high school, my mom did my laundry...and folded my laundry...and put my laundry back into my drawers.

College:

After arriving at college, I honestly had no idea how to do my laundry. Even after my roommate taught me how to do it, I would wait until I had no more clean pants to finally do it.

5. Your living situation

High school:

In high school almost everyone lives at home with their families, and a lot of us have our own room.

College:

Most freshmen, and even upperclassmen, have a roommate. If you weren't lucky enough to have your best friend as your room mate you still have a number of friends in your building that you spend 99% of your time with.

6. The Weekends

High school:

On the weekends in high school you often find yourself working a part time job since your parents are slowly cutting you off.

College:

In college, weekends are a two day cycle of drinking, eating, sleeping, and repeating.

7. Textbooks

High School:

In high school, textbooks are almost always given to you on the first day of school by your teacher, and we take this for granted because..

College:

in college textbooks are EXPENSIVE. I still die a little when I first lay eyes on the bill every semester.

8. Getting ready in the morning.

High school:

In high school everyone, especially girls, tried to impress the entire school every day. I don't remember going to school without a full face of makeup unless it was finals week.

College:

Meanwhile in college everyone is like..

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
