The Things I'll Miss the Most About College This Summer

Although the work is hard, the play will be missed

Coming to college was such a big transition, from adjusting to dorm life to having a set schedule all the time, nothing was every plain and simple. Although it seems like most of us are "so done" with the school work second semester, here are a few things we've taken for granted the past year:

Being constantly surrounded by others your age

I don't know about you, but being around people that have the same types of struggles as me has helped me realize that life really isn't all that bad. Whether it be massive amounts of school work or relationship drama, someone going through something similar is always around the corner. Going back to a hometown filled with high school hormones and retirement homes will be nothing compared to living in a college town. But really, who understands binge-watching Netflix and all-nighters in the library better than the people on your campus?

Dorm life

I know this may seem crazy, but personally, living in a dorm has been the best thing for all of us. Living in such close proximity to everyone going through the same transition brought me so close to so many people I never would've been close to otherwise.

Always having something to do

In college towns, there's always something going on. Whether that be a musical arts festival, a philanthropy event or the newest hot spot for night owls, there is always something going on. Going back to a place where there may be a slim chance of reuniting with old high school friends once a week is going to be nothing compared to having a jam-packed schedule each and every week.

Constantly meeting new people

The best thing about coming to college was getting a fresh start: new friends, new surroundings, new everything! The saddest part will be leaving the friends you met that may live in different states, or even different parts of the world for three months. Coming across new people each and every day is just a small part about what makes coming to college so much fun. I'll miss each and every day while I'm home for the summer.

Independence

Being able to get out of the house and become fully independent has been an...interesting experience, but who hasn't loved every moment of that? You probably realize that each time you go home for breaks, your parents try and control every bit of you until you go back to school. I will be counting down the days until I can return to taking care of myself and continuing to grow as a person.

All in all, although it'll be nice to get a break from the endless supply of school work, it'll be much too long. The fun and opportunities that are in a nutshell college completely outweigh the work. There is nothing that I will miss more than my beautiful campus and all of the memories that lie in my past in it. I can't wait to have many more.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
