In college things always seem to never go way. You’re constantly taking L’s left and right and I don’t know about y’all but going into college I had no fricken clue what to expect. I have older siblings that gave me some words of advice. Like know that you're the underclassmen, you probably won't make your best friends right away, you're constantly going to be broke and hungry-things like that. I know I’m only a Sophomore but now that we’re almost half way through the year I have learned some amazing things and I’m here to lay some knowledge on you.
- The best memories are ones you actually can remember
- You failed a test, not your life. I have called my parents several times after looking on blackboard only to see that I failed a test I had studied days for. And when I say studied days for I literally mean locked myself to a desk in the library and sacrificed all free time to learn how to compute Z scores or how to tell if someone has seasonal depression.
- Numbers don’t define you. This includes, how much you weight, as well if you are a “7/10” on a so called “hot scale,” or if if you can bench press 200 pounds. That ones directed to all the guys in the testosterone pit at the rec, seriously calm down.
- Don’t ignore or shut out your friends, because they’ve probably been through something similar or even if they haven't they’ll do everything they can to be there for you.
- Find someone who you can look up to. Whether it’s your big, your little, a friend, a parent, or a teacher; find that person or people and never let them go.
- Stop worrying about whether your crush will text you back, if they don’t it’s their loss.
- Stop over analyzing everything in general. Not everyone has a hidden agenda if you go looking for what someones “hiding” you’re most likely just going to piss them off.
- You were beautiful before someone told you
- You don't need a perfect body to find a man who loves you, but do some squats-they’ll do you good
- Walking to campus is a pain in the a** but trust me if you turn your music up loud enough you can’t even here yourself struggling to breathe
- Look for the good in everyone. Including that one girl nobody likes because she's overly bearing or sarcastic. Chances are she’s mean for a reason, and someone was probably mean to her. You never know what someones had to face in life.
- Don’t skip class. There’s someone right now in the world dying for the chance to be able to go to school and learn about the things you’re complaining about.
- Do you feel your heart pumping? Do you feel the air leaving your body? That is a sign you are here for a purpose. Your life, or anyone else’s is not a mistake.
College is tough and life is hard. You’re going to have moments where all you want to do is crawl into a corner and cry to your parents about how much your life sucks but then there are going to be moments where all you want to do is celebrate with your friends. College is a time for new memories and new experiences so don't focus on the negative things because when one door closes another opens and you better pray to god it's the door to the bathroom in a frat. Just kidding, kind of. But sometimes you just have to roll with the punches because one day you're going to be looking back at everything you've learned and being sharing your wise words of wisdom with someone younger than you looking for help.
