Picture this: A five year old asks you to check if her rocket is set up properly. Her favorite movie is "Toy Story" and she admires Buzz Lightyear. He can travel to "infinity and beyond," so she thinks, "why can't I?" This girl turns her imagination into a reality and she unknowingly inspires others.
Now, picture this: A freshman in college entering the real world asking you to make sure she is entering the right dorm. She has a goal of who she wants to be, but isn't as sure of herself as she was when she was five. This time, she doesn't know what movie to turn to for inspiration. However, this girl turns her imagination into reality and inspires herself.
Now, how are these two girls the same?
1. They both aren't sure of what the future will hold. To both, the future is a scary thought. There are so many bumps along the way and sometimes the road takes a scary turn or maybe even two. However, this path stitches together their good intentions and opens their heart. This road is one that their future selves would be proud of.
2. They both need naps or else they'll be in a bad mood. Like a 5 year old, college students will fall asleep anywhere at anytime.
3. They both miss their family. Hearing her mom/dad's voice on the phone makes everything okay. She/he calms you down and is always on your side, even when you're wrong.
3. They both cry. Stressed? Cry. Happy? Cry. Hungry? Cry. Why? No one will know.
4. They both need snacks, but they don't have the money to buy them. They both crave chocolate chip cookies, goldfish, and ice cream. It's a literal hunger games kind of situation.
5. They both like to watch the TV, but responsibilities won't let them. Whether you're 5 or 20, the TV shows you want to watch always seem to air at the wrong time.
6. A proper bedtime isn't a thing. When you're 5, bedtime was not the word you wanted to hear. You wanted to stay up like the "cool kids." Now, 15 years later, it's 1 a.m. and your final draft is due at 8 a.m. The concept of "bedtime" immediately flies out the window. You are now your own version of a sleep deprived "cool kid."
7. They both love going on vacations. To a college student, a vacation is any day that doesn't involve having to set your alarm; sleeping in is just as exciting as going to Disney World when you were 5.
It's funny how when you're five, you dream of being your adult self and when you're an adult, you wish to be five again. Both girls are dreamers and unknowingly the inspiration of each other. Fast forward 10 years and your future self is the mix of both girls. She is now so proud of who you've both become and yes, she still loves those naps.
