Why College Students Take Naps

Putting the snooze button on school!

Why College Students Take Naps

When we were all young, we took naps. One nap, maybe even multiple naps a day. Some days we probably even refused to nap! However, coming into college, there are so many reasons to curl up in your dorm bed or some couch in the library to take a nap. In college, we rediscover the art of napping. These are just a few reasons why college students nap:

Because who gets enough sleep at night in college?

Exams, papers, finals, oh my! Just one excuse why college students indulge in a daily nap routine.

Running out of coffee

For most college students, coffee is the only thing that keeps them going. Running low on coffee will guarantee laziness and eventually a nice snooze.

Becoming more productive (in theory)

After a long day in class, most college students like to relax for a little while before starting their homework. Drowsy because their roommates kept them up the night before, their mentality is to take a quick power nap. Sometimes works, most of the time it doesn’t!

By accident

“I’m going to lie down for a minute,” they say. “I’m just going to shut my eyes for a minute,” they say. Next thing they know, they missed their exam.

It can be a hobby

Napping as a hobby must seem absurd, but hear me out. What better way to spend your down time than taking a beauty nap! Who cares if your roommates call you “sleeping beauty.” If you want to make a napping club at your school, I'll definitely join.

There’s nothing to do

Boredom happens. Have to kill some time? Why not catch some Z's?

Because you’re tired

One of the best excuses.

Because there’s extra time in between classes

After struggling to stay awake at your 9am, taking a nap can help you not crash during your second class. However, coffee is also a good solution to that issue.

"Because sleep is a beautiful thing”

The Nyquil commercial got it right. Waking up from a nap can be like a choir of children singing.

Because why not?!

No explanation needed for a true, honorable napper.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
