When you go to college, this strange thing happens, You start to feel like an adult. That feeling only lasts for about a second, before you realize you cannot even cook for yourself, so adulthood is a very vast and distant place. In my opinion, that's a blessing in disguise. But the rest of the world doesn't seem to be too keen on letting us remain young.
I think we should try to stay young at heart for as long as we can. And there's one place where that's always possible. That place is Disney World. The phrase "You're too old to go to Disney World" is used much too often. Need some convincing? Here are a few reasons why you're never too old to go to Disney World:
1. It's a stress reliever.
After enduring the horror that is finals week, you deserve some Disney. Their resorts have some of the most incredible pools. What better way to celebrate the end of the semester than sitting by a pool with a Mickey's Premium Ice Cream Bar?
Let me paint you a picture-- you're sitting here:
Eating this:
Sounds pretty good to me.
2. It is literally the happiest place on earth.
This girl is not overreacting.
While you may not be five years old, there are plenty of things there to guarantee you this amount of joy. Seriously, how can you not be this happy if you're spending the day going on rides and eating funnel cake?
3. It's a judgement-free zone.
Once you're there, there's absolutely no reason to be ashamed of your age. The spirited grandfather wearing the Mickey ears who is standing behind you as you wait for the Buzz Lightyear ride will tell you the same thing. Whether you're on a break from college classes or trying to deal with some form of a mid-life (or maybe quarter-life) crisis, I think we all deserve to let loose and act like a child sometimes.
4. Your entire Instagram feed will be jealous.
From the multiple firework shows that happen across Disney World each night to the Holiday decorations with hidden mickeys everywhere you turn, your Instagram will be on an entirely new level after your visit.
I dare you not to Instagram this:
Or this:
So if you're feeling a little uncool for wearing a college sweatshirt in Disney World, the abundance of likes you will get on all social media should cure you right up. And to the surprise of many, college sweatshirts are some of the most popular apparel in Disney World, right behind Mickey ears.
5. They have amazing food.
There's something we need to talk about-- it's called the "Sticky Mickey". It's the best cinnamon bun you'll ever have, and it's shaped like the one and only Mickey Mouse.
And you should also really know about this next one-- it's called "Tonga Toast". It's two pieces of french toast with a layer of bananas between them, deep fried, and covered in their amazing strawberry sauce. This thing makes the dining hall french toast look like donkey turd.
If you're a college student, and food is not one of the most important parts of your day, you're doing it wrong. Disney understands that.
6. Celebrities are everywhere.
There are entire Instagram accounts dedicated to posting pictures of celebrities spotted in Disney Parks. You might even be lucky enough to run into celebrities like Neil Patrick Harris, a known frequent visitor, as he has countless Kodak moments with his adorable family.
And anywhere where you could happen upon Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde in their prime candid form is a place worth visiting.
If it's cool enough for them, it's cool enough for me
7. It reminds you that dreams do come true.
This is incredibly corny, but I honestly think it's really important. You spend years in college paying hundreds of thousands of dollars and working harder than you ever have in your life, all for that dream of your future. Everyone has one. Whether you're pre-med or suffering through countless economics classes, college is really truly difficult.
It's easy to get a little sad when you spend entire days in the library and manage to completely avoid the sun. It's just nice that there's a place where the sole purpose is to make you happy. While we shouldn't sit at home and wait for our prince to come save us, that's not the only message the Disney movies try to teach us. It's message is clear: believe in the power of your dreams. While you need to do more than wish upon a star, a little positivity goes a long way. That's something you never outgrow.
