A College Student's Checklist For Being Home Through The Holidays

As a college student, returning home for the holidays can be accompanied by a wide array of emotions. While you may be excited for a break from school, as well as getting the chance to see family and friends, there are also some aspects of being home that can be a little bit disappointing. Here is a checklist of the good/bad things college students have to look forward to upon making the trek back to their hometown.

1. Sleeping in your own bedroom: good.

Regardless of whether or not you get along with your roommate, there’s an amazing feeling that accompanies being able to sleep in your underwear without awkward glances.

2. Home cooked meals: good.

Alas: a meal that isn’t burnt pizza rolls or Lunchables!

3. Running around town with the friends you haven’t seen in four months: good.

It’s a great feeling when you’re driving around your old stomping grounds with your closest friends, so long as it’s not your gas that’s being wasted.

4. Running into the people you didn’t like in high school: bad.

There are the people you can’t wait to see when you’re home, then there’s Garret, the guy that used to chew tobacco in your math class and constantly shares racist articles on Facebook.

5. Getting Facebook invitations to different events that are happening back at school: bad.

Nothing is worse than knowing that there is a fun event happening back on campus while you’re in a place that has more country music radio stations than buildings.

6. Spending more than enough quality time with your dog: good.

This may just be the most important item on this list. Nothing beats sending snapchat after snapchat of your perfect furry companion to all of your friends that couldn’t care less if you were able to get your dog to wear sunglasses for a photo.

7. The generally conservative environment: bad.

As great as it is to see multiple pickup trucks proudly presenting the confederate flag as they drive down the street, it can be a little unsettling to know that there are actually a good number of people in the area that view Donald Trump as a viable option for POTUS.

8. The length of the break: bad.

A long break is bad? Weird, right? Hear me out on this one. You’re excited to be home, but once you’ve spent a lot of time with your family, hung out with all of your friends, and revisited all of your favorite places from home, you begin counting down the days until you get to go back to school.

9. Getting away from a busy schedule for a while: good.

Now, number eight being said, a long break can also be a good thing. When you’re constantly bogged down with homework, classes, and extracurricular activities, it can be nice to spend hours in a dark bedroom, the only light being the screen of your phone as you mindlessly retweet cat pictures.

10. Not having to pay ridiculous amounts of money for laundry: Freaking amazing.

It’s pretty nice to visit a land where laundry doesn’t cost $1.50 per load, especially considering that all of the money spent to wash your underwear could be spent seeing the new "Star Wars" movie 20 times in theaters.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
