College Student Resolutions

These resolutions may or may not make it through January

So it's that time of year again. The time to grab a piece of scrap paper and write down everything you want to do in the upcoming months. Make resolutions that stick. Live by the motto "New Year, New Me."

Lets be real here, the piece of leftover wrapping paper with chicken scratch handwriting that didn't get thrown away with the rest of the trash on Christmas will eventually get tossed in the trash (or ripped and then tossed in the trash). However, I have compiled a list of resolutions for the average college student. A list that will maybe make it through January, but here it is nonetheless:

1.) Not go out to eat for every meal

2.) Limit of two trips to get wings and a limit of four Taco Bell trips per week

3.) Not get discouraged when it's the end of the day and Village Inn was for breakfast, Buffalo Wild Wings was for lunch and Taco Bell was calling out at 1 A.M.

4.) Get more sleep

5.) Go out more and not sleep so much

6.) Exercise more (Power-walking to class because the alarm "didn't go off" and there are no other parking spots DOES, IN FACT, COUNT)

7.) Eat more fruit. Some are sugary sweet, that should help right?

8.) Do laundry more than once a month (this includes washing sheets...)

9.) Vegetables are not an enemy, eat more of those too

10.) Maybe stay away from all the chicken nuggets (or maybe not)

11.) Save a portion of the paycheck

12.) Have more "treat yo' self" days

13.) Call/visit parents not just to ask for money or to take over the washer and dryer for a couple hours, but because they gave life and they are kinda cool

14.) Write down more memories/dreams/ideas

15.) Take more pictures, not just party Snapchats of the drinking games or of that random guy that was drawn all over but pictures of places, things, people, that are found to hold some sort of beauty

16.) Do something you love everyday. (Take this phrase as you please...)

17.) Set some rules/guidelines to make things easier

18.) Be spontaneous and let life come as it does

19.) Travel more, like maybe to the grocery store

20.) Keep the fridge stocked with more than just booze (this is hard, I am aware.)

21.) Meet new people

22.) Catch up with old friends

23.) Try something new (food, places, job, kegstands, etc.)

24.) Know what you deserve and don't settle for less

25.) Be open to love and relationships ya might just find a new friend in coffee even if you have sworn that you hate it before. (Once you become hooked its an obsessive relationship, trust me on this one.)

26.) Read more books, not just WorldStar tweets

27.) Netflix binge a little more to create more "me-time"

28.) Cut the Netflix down to enjoy peace & quiet or hang out with friends

29.) Complete homework before the last week of the semester.........

30.) Keep these resolutions to the best of my ability (keepin' "best of my ability" as vague as possible)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
