You’re not alone, everyone goes through it at least once in their college career. As for me, it's hit me just about every semester since I started and I am a junior now. I know I’m not the only one who considered throwing the towel in more times than one. “It’s fun,” they said. “Turn up is real,” they said. What they didn’t say, though, is how stressful it is. The common struggle between whether you should finish your assignment or just disappear for a few days and find some dumb excuse to tell the professor. By the way, most of them aren’t human, professors have no type of emotions whatsoever. I could tell them I got into a car accident and they would probably say “you knew about this assignment a week before your accident, which was plenty of time to complete it.”
Hello my name is Daivona, and I am a procrastinator! The first step is acceptance, so for me the biggest problem is I always wait until the last minute to do my assignments. As an English major waiting until the last minute to do a five to eight page paper is not a good idea. Ironically I wait until the last minute, but still find myself too busy to have a real college life. Just last week I found myself struggling to knock out two five-page papers in one night. One was due that night at 11:59 and the other one was due the next day at noon. Don’t worry I cried, lost sleep and a little bit of sanity but I got them both done. I say all this to say, don’t be like me. Don’t wait until the due date to do the assignment because professors don’t care how many classes you take or how many other assignments you have all they care about is there assignment getting done, on time.
It’s common to bite off more than we can chew sometimes. Not only am I a scholarship athlete, but I also joined four different organizations on campus and I’m on the executive board of three. Yes, I had a lot on my plate. Now when I say that I’m a scholarship athlete I mean, part of my tuition is paid through athletics. I can’t afford to miss, be late or even leave early from practice. I could stay up for hours doing a paper and still have to wake up at six in the morning for practice on some days. When I say to my classmates “This isn’t for me,” nine times out of ten I’m so serious. College really is stressful at times. The days seem shorter, semesters seem longer and the workload is infinite. Only thing that keeps me going is the feeling of knowing that May 2017 when I take that walk on the quad and flip my tassel it’ll all be worth it.
College life is all fun and games until your midterm grades come and you realize you are legitimately on the brink of failing every class but rec. It is in that moment that you are allowed to go completely insane while simultaneously getting your crap together before the final.
