To My College Squad

The girls I couldn't do college without-

To My College Squad

When they say the friends you make in college will be your friends for life, it's definitely a true statement. Freshman year, I didn't believe that quote, but it's only because I didn't find my "squad" until sophomore year. Now, we are inseparable and I couldn't imagine life without them and not seeing them every single day. From spending too much money, eating out too much, and spending too much time downtown, we have truly become attached at the hip.

We share the same sisterhood.

Out of all of the houses on campus, we all chose the same one. Life would be so different if we were in different houses (we may not even know each other) but I sure am thankful we are here together. Big shoutout to my girl Georgia D. for bringing us together. No matter where we'll go in life, we'll always be connected with our letters.

We eat Mexican more than anyone should.

You would think by now that we would be able to cook our own chicken quesadillas, and even make our own chips, salsa, and queso based on how much we eat Mexican.

We share each other's closets.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me borrow your clothes all the time, and you're welcome for borrowing mine! I know if I don't have anything to wear, I can run to one of your closets and find the perfect outfit.

We don't judge each other, ever.

Talking to your ex again? Or the guy missing a certain facial feature? Your college squad may be mad at you, but at least they let you do what you want to do and just welcome you back with open arms when it doesn't work out, again. It's never an "I told you so", but always a "come here, it's going to be okay".

We get mad at each other, but work it out.

Sometimes, we spend way too much time together and we have to have a yelling match to get all of our frustrations out, but it never lasts long. I'm glad we are close enough to be honest with each other all the time and tell each other exactly how we feel. And after it's over, we get to makeup with a Mexican date.

We go everywhere together.

Going four hours away? Load everyone up and get on the road! Not only do we have fun in our college town, but we have fun in other ones as well. Going to a date party at another university? I found you a date, so come on! Life sure is a lot easier to take on with you all by my side.

Thank you all for always being here for me whenever I need you. College is flying by, but I know we will always be close, even when we are older. So, here's to making the rest of college as awesome as the first half has been.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
