There are two types of students in college during their senior year: the ones that are trying to live it up and make the last year count, and the ones that spend most of their time applying for jobs and hitting the books.
If you are anything like me, I started out thinking I would want to live it up, but once October hit- so did the seriousness of it all. When I started to slow down going out during week nights, I noticed my social groups certainly shifted. At first I was a bit bothered by this overall shift, but then I looked at all of the advantages.
To the senior college students that are ready to graduate- it is okay and you are not a "wild card." Students like us are just ready for that next step in our lives a little sooner than others. We need to be surrounded by students that are on the same track as we are, in order to keep up the motivation to get to graduation. If you are a student that is trying to live it up before graduation, that is okay too! Many college seniors take this year to live it up before we have to become serious about leaving college life. But for those of us that are realizing that we are leaving that part of our lives behind us a little sooner, it is not because we are becoming boring.
If you are frustrated about your "ready to graduate" mindset, here are some ideas to keep in mind. You are ready because you are looking forward to your future. If your current social life is slowing down, maybe those friends are meant to be left behind. If they are not supportive of your goals, they probably are not supportive of most other things in your life. If you are ready to leave your college town and go somewhere - anywhere - else, that is something to look forward to in the upcoming months. Maybe you are looking for more of a fast paced city, or a slowed down country town. Either way- you want out of your current college town atmosphere.
Lastly, we have to remember that even though we are ready to start that next step in our lives, we don't need to rush anything. Graduation will be here before we know it, so as we are applying for jobs and hitting the books, we need to allow ourselves to have fun and live it up while we are able to.
